They say that the second best thing to getting your bid is getting your big. I remember how excited I was for Big Little Week. It was a whole week dedicated to showering me with presents, with the best gift being my big at the end of the week!

Each day of the week was orchestrated perfectly, with a highlight being amazing crafts. Big Little Week as the Little is fantastic, but now that I am prepping for my own Little, I have a new appreciation for all of the work that goes into the crafting.

I started my crafting journey as a dreamer with a very extravagant Pinterest board. The more phrases that could be molded to contain my Greek letters, the better! I filled my board with so many canvases containing quotes of sisterhood and sincere friendship. I was ready to go to the Michaels craft store and take on the world.

However, once I picked up a paintbrush and was filled with slight terror, I was brought back to the realization that I am not an artist and needed to think of some more realistic crafts. I am very thankful that I had this epiphany early on and not two weeks before Big Little.

I gained some pro tips that are worth passing on, once I knew that I couldn’t just recreate anything I found on the Internet perfectly. I went to a Da Vinci and Dessert class that taught me how to paint the classic Lilly print flower. It was a super fun class and it greatly decreased my fear of the dreaded paintbrush.

If you gain anything from this article, let it be this! It is hard to paint text! This is why craft stores are wonderful and sell paint markers. It is paint, but way easier to maneuver than the traditional set up. They are the reason why my little will have great crafts (and because I have a artsy srat fam who loves me and will help me).

Don’t be afraid to ask for help from your sorority family. They are excited about getting a new member and have gone through it before. I visited my Big over the summer and had a lot of fun crafting for my future Little with her. This was also an instance where I saw that she was much more artsy than me. The crafts that my family line has made are amazing and I know will make our newest member feel loved.

I think the most important thing though is to remember that it is supposed to be fun. I am really excited to welcome another member to my srat family and the crafts are just a little way to show how much we care. I remember how special I felt during my Big Little Week, and I want that feeling for my future Little. It is worth getting over my fear of paintbrushes and accepting that not everything on Pinterest is actually possible to create. Now, back to more crafting…
