Things It Cost $0 To Do

There are so many times throughout the week that we spend money. We spend it on groceries, coffee, entertainment, going out with friends, travel, and other mindless things that we don't even think about spending money on. We buy things that we don't need but society tells us that we need and with those, we sometimes don't even think twice about because it's "in" right now and the world is telling us that we need it, and it's nothing that even is meaningful for us. But the thing we don't always remember is that it's those priceless things that really mean more to us and the people around us. So here are a few things it costs $0 to do, and impact everyone around us positively.

It cost $0 to be nice.

Seriously. Sometimes I don't understand why people are mean for no reason. I understand that everyone has things going on and that no one fully knows what another person is going through. I completely understand that sometimes you're caught up in whatever is upsetting you and it's hard to not take that out on others, however, it cost $0 to be nice and think twice before reacting negatively towards someone who most likely doesn't deserve it.

It cost $0 to step outside and take a break.

Life's tough. Work and school and whatever else can get you so into your own head that you can't separate yourself sometimes. But you always have the option to step outside and catch your breath. You can always get out of your current situation by just getting outside or taking a walk. It'll help put things into perspective and let you give your mind a break from whatever situation you're in.

It cost $0 to smile.

Sometimes you're not in the mood to deal with anyone. Sometimes you're so extremely pissed off at life and your current situation or whatever is going on in your life that it's hard to laugh or interact with others without taking your mood out on them. But when someone politely even just says hi to you - it cost $0 to just flash them a smile. You don't need to have a 25 minute conversation or even really say hello. A polite smile or a smile that will help your mood will cost you absolutely nothing.

It cost $0 to make time for a family member or friend.

Some might argue this one. Some will say that time is money and it could lose out on money by taking time for conversations, but this will always be worth it. It'll be worth taking the time to talk to the people in your life who are important to you and your life. These are the people who will always be by your side and when push comes to shove, you know you can count on them. Make sure to take care of those relationships and put the time into them.

It cost $0 to be yourself.

You can spend so much money on cosmetics, things that make you look or feel better, treatments, and other items that make you feel like you're a better you. That being said, it'll forever cost $0 to be your authentic self. You can do what you want on the outside, but on the inside, you'll always be you. By being yourself you're breathing authenticity into the world and into your life and you always need to remember that no matter what, being yourself is what matters most. Don't let the world tell you to change that.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
