(how to be happy)

A Commandment

Look, happiness comes from many different sources, different people have varying sources of happiness depending on who they are. Some find happiness in puppy dogs and white roses, others find happiness in a soft kiss or a fuzzy blanket some find happiness in journaling or hiking.

No matter what, everyone is constantly striving to be the happiest they can be, and it seems like happiness always directly correlates with some form of love. Love should no longer be seen as exclusive. Love is an intimidating word, but it should not be taboo.

Nothing you do should be done with the intent to hurt or deceive. Nothing you do should be done with the intent to hurt or deceive. Everything you do should be done out of complete love. If what you do does cause pain or confusion, you must resolve it in peace, continuing to emulate love. If you love someone, let him or her know in anyway you can. Love should be open and over-flowing in us all. If someone hurts you, you should not despise him or her but rather resolve and forgive. This is a difficult task but it must be done with the right heart. If it is not, the problem will persist and the wounds created will deepen.

If you feel it impossible to forgive the ones who have trespassed against your soul, turn away from your selfish wants and feelings. Take a small amount of time to obtain a content state of mind and go, love them! Take this as my mandate to you. Make sure they know that you care deeply for them despite your conflicts and then leave in peace. Your mind will feel no regret or conflict. In this, you will find yourself completely content. Your former enemies, past lovers and present connections must know, upfront, that they are loved or else they’ll feel that awful sinking pressure that so many of us feel when we are lonely.

When you find unhappy, distracting and negative thoughts entering your mind, meditate and over power those thoughts with good. Think of all those negative things (when in a good state) and resolve them quickly. Do not leave any ends untied; close all ends with love.

Love everyone from the lonely stranger to the long lost lover. Love everyone from the rooftops to a small couch. Love everyone so they never know what it is like to be without love for we all know that without love, life is meaningless. Make these your commandments, spread joy and positivity through unrelenting love. I say to you, live your life with nothing but love and you will find happiness and fulfillment.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
