From being one of the best college football players ever to getting drafted third overall in the 2006 NFL Draft, Vince Young never had the NFL career he wanted. His first year was his time to shine and then it went all downhill from there. He won the 2006 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, and another bright spot was that he was on the cover of the 2008 Madden video game. He spent two more years with the Titans but then was out of Tennessee along with head coach at the time Jeff Fisher. After the NFL lockout in 2011, he was in Philadelphia as Mike Vick's backup. Then he started to get himself in trouble with a cash burning incident with the Cheesecake Factory, which was happening weekly. He then bounced around the league with the Bills, Packers and Browns, and after the Browns he never was seen in an NFL regular season game and then involuntarily stepped away from the NFL. It has been two years since Young was last seen in the NFL.
Recently, Young was arrested for driving while intoxicated in Austin, Texas. The arrest was confirmed by the police but no details were released yet. His 2016 Chevrolet Silverado was pulled over after an Austin police officer saw Young change lanes without using his signal, speed and drift within the lanes. They pulled Young over in a parking lot, where according to the officer, Young displayed being intoxicated, with slurred speech, glassy eyes, and a strong smell of alcohol. Also, Young was very "uncooperative" and "impolite," according to the officer. Young was charged with a single misdemeanor DWI count and was taken to Travis County Jail, and the posted bail at $2,000 was released the next morning.
Young played at the University of Texas where he thrived and now that he is out of the NFL, he went back to his Alma mater and he works as the diversity and engagement officer in the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at the University of Texas. He also helps to raise money to support the division's many educational programs, according to University of Texas officials.
In my opinion, I think that Young is one of the biggest bust's in the NFL. Not just a waste of talent, but a huge disappointment to all of his fans. At 32, he should still be in the NFL and shouldn't be doing these things that are giving him a bad rep. This isn't the first time he has done something he is getting in trouble for, and he should be getting help if he has a drinking problem. There aren't many players who have great college careers who waste their NFL career like Young did.
