The scariest part of college is probably not knowing who your friends are going to be. It seems almost impossible to imagine anyone matching up to your closest friends from home. However, when you do find the right person, you develop a bond that will most likely last a lifetime.
Dear College BFF,
I couldn't have been luckier to have met you at freshman orientation. We both knew no one and we both found those awkward orientation group ice breakers to be extremely uncomfortable. We both had common interests and similar personalities, so we figured that we would at least be acquaintances as we began school. Little did we know that the term "acquaintances" would not even come to close to doing our future friendship justice.
After spending every day together for a few months, we became instant friends. For that and so many other things, I want to thank you. I'd like to start by thanking you for giving me a chance in the first place. I came into college terrified, shy and anxious, and I'm sure you noticed that. But you looked past all that and stuck around to see my true personality. The fact that you stuck with me even after discovering my weird and annoying side is pretty impressive, so thanks for that too.
I also want to thank you for not only accepting my weird and annoying side, but for being weird and annoying with me. Thanks for breaking out into song or dance with me, wherever and whenever. Thanks for showing up at my room when you haven't seen me all day. Thanks for texting me just because you miss me. You also deserve some credit for the other little things. Thanks for going to the dining hall for fries and ice cream with me once (or twice) a week because our salad diet was just not cutting it anymore. Thanks for walking me to class because I didn't want to do that five-minute walk alone. Thanks for listening to my angry rants and telling me I'm right, even if I might be wrong sometimes. Thanks for being my third roommate. Thanks for taking lots of breaks with me in between homework assignments. Thanks for making scenes with me and laughing too loud in the library because one of us made a ridiculous joke. And thanks for always choosing a sleepover in a twin-size bed over going out. It's all these little things that make you so special.
I would lastly like to thank you for simply being there; no matter what.
You've been there through the good the bad and the ugly, and you
deserve a lot of credit for that. I appreciate you sitting through my
crying fits even though I might have no
idea why I'm crying. I appreciate your advice on boys and life in
general. I especially appreciate all the laughs and memories you've
given me. I love how people don't mention one of our names without the
other and how we feel "naked" when we aren't together. This reminds me
that you always have me and I always have you. Without you by my side, I
don't know how I would have survived my freshman year. You're a forever
friend and I'm very grateful for you. Thanks for being awesome. I appreciate you.
Love,
Lindsay from Group 9
