My Fall 2019 Classes Ranked From Least To Most Exciting

Fall semester is in full swing. I am taking six classes; three are three-credits and three are one-credit. Overall, it seems like it will be an interesting semester but some classes will definitely be better than others.

Evolution of Aerospace Studies

During my freshman year, I joined AFROTC. Unfortunately, I got medically disqualified by the spring semester. Even though I was no longer in the program, I gained two out of the three speech credits required for graduation. Since I didn't want to take a three-credit speech course when I only need one credit, I decided to take this class in order to fulfill my requirements. The class mainly focuses on shaping cadets and since I'm not in the program, all of the assignments seem odd to me.

Foundations of Emergency Management

This class is a requirement for the Emergency Management and Homeland Security Certificate. Overall, it seems like it'll be an interesting class but the number of readings and extra work that come along with it decreases the excitement I feel for it.

Psychological Perspectives of Criminal Justice

When I first signed up for this class, I was super excited about it but the circumstances changed. The professor who was supposed to be teaching the class left FSU and I'm pretty sure the actual title of the class changed. We're using the same book that I used for a class last year which is fine but I don't want to learn the same information for a second time.

Stretch and Relaxation

I've thrown a lot of shade at this class but I decided to take it anyways because I needed an extra credit to get to full-time. Even though it is a waste of time, if you need an extra B.S. class, this is the one to pick. It's a very relaxing class and since I never take the time to relax, I'm forced to chill for 50 minutes. I'm low-key excited to see what the semester brings.

Introduction to Terrorism

This class has been on my list of classes to take since I started my international affairs major. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to take it but here I am, week two and I’m excited to learn about something that is such an extensive part of our society.

Self-Defense

I participated in the Citizens Police Academy with FSUPD last spring and there was mention of the Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) class. I really wanted to get into the class and when drop/add came, I was able to join. I'm extremely excited about this class because I don't get to the gym as much as I should and this class will be a workout, as well as, a way to learn useful skills.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
