Christmas With A Big Family

But, at this time year in a room full of crazy, I see all the reasons I never knew what lonely felt like, I see all the faces that always show up, always pick up the phone and always have my back no matter what.I see my very own wolf pack and I know deep down I would never want my Christmas any other way but total messy bliss.

Christmas is an event no matter who you are, but Christmas when you are a part of a large family is beyond words. While I am sure many people all over the world have nice simple Christmases, I have no idea what that entails. I know no other way than this crazy, insane, messy perfect Christmas. The kind of Christmas that easily counts up to 30 people, because they are in fact your immediate family. Most of you share the same parents. It is the kind of family that when there is a family group text it will literally last until the end of time just to decide on what we will have for lunch, but I would not have it any other way.

Christmas in my family is huge!! Not huge in I bought the store kind of way. Huge in every way. Bursting at the seems huge. Filled will music and laughter and chaos. A bit of organized chaos because we are suckers for tradition. We already have Christmas planned for the rest of our lives. And, just in case one of us thinks we have the option of skipping out, we better get it straight, because someone will shut that down in a second. Once the last bite of Thanksgiving dinner has been eaten, sales papers are pulled out, perfect gifts are planned, your assigned food is the same food you are always assigned, because this equation never varies.

Most of the faces I see on December 25th, have been the same faces I have seen every December 25th since I was born. Some have left and new ones have been added, but it is always the same.Like clockwork you can bet on it.You know where you can find everyone seated. The same recipes have been passed down from generations, because those recipes are what Christmas tastes like. Everyone wants to have the best gift to give the kids. After lunch you just kind of kick off your shoes and lay on the sofa with ten other people laying on or around you. You hear people talking to or over each other and every conversation can quickly escalate to a heated argument. But, by the end of the day you will have retaken photos you have posed for the last four years for, caught up on all the family news, eaten about 100 times and if you are lucky you snuck in a Nerf war with the kids. Because, that is what Christmas is to you. It is all the things that you remember for a lifetime and that you secretly never want to change.

It is the same loud and chaotic scene, wrapping paper and gifts flying everywhere.Joyful squeals and a whirlwind of madness engulfing you until you almost feel dizzy. There is no order or rhyme or reason, it is a make it up as you go system. And, to the outside world it may be flawed but in my world, it is sheer perfection.Because it fits with all the flaws that built this family, and when I look at them I still see sheer perfection.

My big family may drive me insane. There is always a crisis that is not really a crisis. No people on the planet get under my skin sometimes more than they do. But, at this time of year in a room full of crazy, I see all the reasons I never knew what lonely felt like, I see all the faces that always show up, always pick up the phone and always have my back no matter what.I see my very own wolf pack and I know deep down I would never want my Christmas any other way but the total messy bliss.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
