It seemed like the Cavaliers' fate was settled after game four, when they trailed 3-1 in the series against the reigning champion. The Warriors were playing ecstatic defense and shooting on all cylinders. No team has ever come back to win the NBA championship after trailing 3-1, but then again, no one has ever had LeBron James on their team.
After being down 3-1, the critics were all over the Cavaliers and especially LeBron, saying how he shouldn't have left Miami, and how he's not explosive as he once was. Kevin Love was giving little to no help, scoring under 10 points and playing lackluster defense. The Warriors were showing their dominance, but after winning game four, Draymond Green got suspended for kicking LeBron James in the lower half. Klay Thompson also said that this Warriors team could beat Magic Johnsons' Lakers. After this comment by Klay, the Cavaliers went on to win game five 112-97.
Game six brought the series back to Cleveland, and LeBron showed the world he's not ready to go home. He played 43 minutes, had 41 points 11 assists and 8 rebounds. Kevin Love provided no help, once again, but Tristan Thompson stepped up to the plate and had a 15-15 double double as the Cavaliers cruised to a 115-101 victory. There was something else that happened in this game: Steph Curry fouled out and got ejected for throwing his mouthpiece. As he was walking off the court he said, "I'm coming," which was a comment pertaining to game seven.
You couldn't have asked for a better turnout to this series. Tied 3-3, with one game left to determine who the champion is. Remember, no team in NBA history has ever come back from a 3-1 deficit.
It was a back and fourth game with lead changes every quarter. With one minute left in the fourth it was tied, and Kyrie Irving took the matter in his hands by taking Steph Curry on an isolation, and hitting a three pointer. The Warriors had one more chance to tie the game up, but the Cavaliers swarming defense didn't allow it. Game over, 93-89. History was made.
Once that clock went off, the tears couldn't be held back. LeBron broke down crying because he kept his promise: he would deliver a ring back to the city of Cleveland. He showed his dominance by averaging 36 ppg, 12 rpg, and 10 apg in elimination games, and is the only person -- besides Michael Jordan -- with three rings, three final MVPs and four regular MVPs.
LeBron is proving himself more and more to be the best player of this generation. We are watching history in the making before our eyes. Take it in as much as possible, folks.
