We all idolize her. Elle Woods is the epitome of killing is as a woman. She never compromised style or beauty, but she always killed it in the courtroom. Inevitably, all women want to be just like her. Because at the end of the day, we have all been Elle crying in a bunny suit at Vivian's not-so costume party. What matters, is what you do after you hit rock bottom.
Here are 12 things you can learn from Elle Woods on how to kill it as a lady (or a man... anyone can do it).
1. Never ever tear down another woman
Even though Vivian was ~totally~ being the worst 90% of the movie, Elle never tears her down. Sure sure, Elle called Vivian a "Frigid Bitch" when Vivian tricked Elle into arriving a bunny costume, but spur of the moment (and all things considered) it's okay because of what Elle does next. Elle never brings Vivian down. Elle realizes that Warner has moved on and doesn't blame Vivian, Elle blames Warner. This is very important. Blaming and tearing down other women only takes away from our collective girl power. Don't do it. Be strong and don't take let society tell you to have to sacrifice your female friendships for success.
2. Never underestimate the power of a good outfit
All of Elle's outfits are powerful and wonderful. Dress for success. It's a life skill.
3. Always respect animals and remember they love you unconditionally
Bruiser and Elle's relationship is priceless. Everyone wants to love their pet that much. Animals are pure of heart and only want to love and protect you. They are your allies not a dependent.
4. Remember You have power over men.
Don't believe me? Watch the bend and snap scene a few more times just to confirm.
5. Set your goals high and then achieve them
Look, Nobody expected this prissy little sorority girl who got an A in polka dots to get into Harvard, but she did. She worked hard, got one point short of perfect on her LSATs and basically sacrificed her entire senior year of undergrad to go to law school. How badass is that? Your goals are important and working hard to achieve them is wonderful.
6. Do not let men tear you down
Whether it's Callahan or Warner, Elle triumphs over misogyny with grace. She empowers herself by not succumbing to idiocy. Both Warner and Callahan underestimate her power and try to belittle her into a submissive barbie figure, but Elle has none of it and ends up winning the case because she channels her inner beauty queen.
7. Never be afraid of your girlie side
Look, high heels and mini skirt are not for everyone, I get that and totally support you. But, on the other hand, wearing dresses is not a sign of weakness. Elle figured out that Enrique was gay just because he commented on her shoes. There is power in beauty everyone.
8. You can always rise above
Not only does Elle surprise everyone by getting into Harvard Law, she surprises everyone again by graduating top of her class. Ms. Woods is one smart cookie. Do not let others tear you down, I cannot emphasize this enough.
9. Listen to other women, do not belittle them
On Elle's first day of Harvard, Professor Stromwell gives Elle a hard time. Professor Stromwell has high hopes for Elle and does not let Elle self-sabotage. Instead of writing Professor Stromwell off as frigid, Elle uses this motivation to become the successful graduate and eventually lawyer she was always meant to be. Women need to spend more time empowering other women, it's just that simple.
10. Never underestimate the power of a good mani-pedi
Elle met the beautiful Paulette at a nail salon and that friendship changed her life. Remember that.
11. Appreciate your female friendships.
They may seem really silly at times but having girlfriends to complain about boys with and have pizza nights with, well... that's priceless.
12. Be kind to everyone, even people that may seem a little weird
The scene where Elle stands up for Dorky David when the girls are pushing him aside? Priceless. Be like that.
