Are you looking for a fun getaway from the DFW area? Are you an adrenaline junkie? Then BRS Cable Park in Waco, Texas will be the perfect day trip for you!
If you're a TCU student like me, you're probably thinking there is absolutely no way there is any good reason to drive down to Waco other than a TCU vs Baylor match up. Well, I was completely wrong, and so are you.
The BRS Cable Park is about an hour and half drive from Fort Worth, which is perfect for a short day trip on a game-less Saturday. The three main attractions are the longest man-made lazy river, a cable park (a wake boarding experience using cables to pull you across the water instead of a boat), and the Royal Flush (three epic water slides). My friends and I purchased the lazy river and Royal flush pass for 30 dollars. We were able to see the cable park, but we could not afford it, being broke college students.
We first tried out the Royal Flush water slides. The first time going down was a little frightening, as the slides slope upwards and the end, closely resembling a ski jump. After smacking my back/neck on the water, I quickly changed my form and had a much better experience. Yes, I woke up the day after with a large bruise on my butt and weird pains in my neck, but did I have a blast? Yes! I am definitely planning on taking my little brother there the next time he visits.
Next was the lazy river, which was quite underwhelming. The water was mud brown. Insects were swimming all around us. But we no doubt made the best of the hour long lazy ride. We enjoyed talking to bachelor party that was floating alongside us. They gave us their insight into life and love. What an awesome way to bond with strangers.
All in all, the day was a blast, despite the fact that we all came back to Fort Worth a little red and crispy. If you have the time to get down to Waco before the weather turns, I would definitely recommend it!
