The 10 Best Ways To Become The Perfect College Student

When you go to college, you think it's going to be the best years of your life. You don't have to ask your parents to go out, you don't have to sneak out, stay up as late as you want, and you don't have to go to class.

But after all the fun of that, you have to do three five-page papers in one week, critique all the movies that have Dustin Hoffman in them, and balance your time between school, sleep, hanging out with friends, and try to save money.

But all these high school students that are graduating and going off on their own have no clue what they're getting into and have no clue on how to be the perfect college students.

Here's a list of how to be the best college student there is.

1. Befriend your teachers.

This is VERY important. Your professors literally hold your future in their hands and if they don't know you, they aren't going to try to help you pass. I love all my professors, they are some of my favorite people. And as long as they know me by my nickname I know I'm doing something right.

2. Get a coffee machine

We get it, you like your venti flat white with four extra shots of esspresso, soy milk, a pump of sugar free vanilla and four splenda (my actual order from Starbucks) but I tell you what... spending $40 one day that will make enough coffee to last months is so worth it.

3. Get a meal plan

Your freshman year is the worst year for eating schedule. You eat a lot with the little time you have, and it's usually noodles you can cook in your room with that coffee machine you got. So get a meal plan, that way in between classes you can run to the cafe and get a sandwich to go!

4. Don't procrastinate

Yes, way easier said than done. But just avoid this as much as possible.

5. Learn to pull an all nighter

I know I just said, "don't procrastinate," but sometimes it's unavoidable. Get energy drinks, coffee, snacks, and try to stay off Facebook. All nighters are meant to get work done, so get it done.

6. Join an organization

I chose sorority. But you decide what you like the most and do it. This is the best way to meet people, find something to do, and it even makes your grades better!

7. Get a job

Now ONLY do this if you time manage well. I work and I really shouldn't, but this is a real easy way to get out of the house and make money. Recommendations? Choose a job that will work with your schedule and a job you know you're going to enjoy.

8. Get a second coffee machine

Yeah, I know I said get a coffee machine... But in all honesty, you need two. I have a large 12 cup machine and a 6 cup machine. Even then, I think I might need another one.

9. Endless thumb drives

Thumb drives are important, so important. You cannot make it through college without one, two, or forty. In high school I had a teacher always tell me, "Jesus saves, so should you."

10. Have fun

Study, study hard, but when the time comes, don't be afraid to have fun. Make your college years the best, most successful, and most fun!

Love,

A College Senior

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
