10 Benefits To Having A Mexican Grandma

One of the biggest pleasures and blessings you can have in life is knowing your grandparents. My grandma came from Zacatecas, Mexico when she was only 18-years-old. If it weren't for her, my life wouldn't be what it is today-- in many ways. Reese Witherspoon said, "And I want to say that my grandmother was one of the biggest inspirations in my life. She taught me how to be a real woman, to have strength and self-respect, and to never give those things away." My grandma has taught me this and more. There are countless benefits to having a grandma, but a Mexican grandma, well, that's a bonus.

1. Another "Mother" Figure

Someone to always protect and love you...sometimes even from your own mother. She's your voice of reason.

2. Keeps You Bilingual

If it weren't for my grandma, I probably wouldn't be able to speak Spanish. Being able to communicate with her means the world to me and I'm thankful that she spoke to me in Spanish at a young age because being able to communicate with her means the world to me. Until this day, she corrects my grammar, but I love her for it. Otherwise, I wouldn't learn.

3. Home Remedies

Feeling sick? No problem. Your grandma probably knows a home remedy for every sickness you may pick up along the way.

4. Good Home Cookin'

No food will ever compare to that of your grandmas. You may search for a Mexican restaurant, but you will never find one that serves your grandma's home cookin'.

5. A Best Friend

Although, you can count on your grandma to serve as a mother figure from time to time. You can always count on her to serve as one of your best friends. Someone you can confide in, tell jokes with, gossip with, etc.

6. Best Travel Companion

The best trips are those spent with your family. Having your grandma by your side makes it all the more special.

7. Stories

Your grandma has more stories than you can remember, but every single one is just as interesting as the next.

8. Someone To Keep You Grounded

If you need a reality check, your grandma will not hesitate to give you one. Trust me, you'll thank her in the long run.

9. Best Life Lessons

No better life lessons will come from someone other than your grandma. She's been there, done that-- a hundred times over. She will bring out stories from when she used to live on el rancho and had to "do this and that."

10. Unconditional Love

At the end of the day, the best thing you get from your grandma is her full and unconditional love. Every time she sees you, she embraces you with the same amount of love and affection. This will never, ever, ever get old.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
