It's that special time of year again. Blood, sweat, tears — everything is put on the line for the ultimate prize. It's a fight to beat out the rest, but it can't be accomplished alone. Ethnicity, wealth, beliefs – none of it matters in this competition. It's an 82 game slugfest, with no two games the same.
The NBA season is back, and oh how sweet it is.
It's time for the tip-off that signals the start of the game. Time for the crazy comebacks and the buzzer-beating heartbreakers. Time for the entertaining halftime shows and the humorous mistakes. Time for the team pride and the adrenaline rush of seeing a good game.
No matter how long I go on and on about it, there's simply no way to fully describe the excitement and love I feel towards the NBA season. All the years I played basketball in middle school and high school were accentuated by my fantasies of being Kobe Bryant, Lebron James, Derrick Rose – so many players I would spend hours trying to copy on the court, only to go inside to spend even more hours watching them play.
The sport I love is back in action, yet it is so much more than a simple sport on television. It's an escape, a chance to relax and unwind by watching gifted individuals play a sport that they love, individuals who have in turn made me love the sport as well. There's something extremely special about watching people from all walks of life come together on a team to compete for a common goal.
No person can win it all completely by himself; the absolute need for complete teamwork to succeed just acts as a model for everyday life. The amount of passion the players have for the game and the sacrifices they are willing to make inspires me to find the passion of my life that I will want to give everything for because it was just that important to me.
Of course, at the end of the day, plenty of people will see it as just another sports season with far too many games. For me, it means so much more than that. It's the professional level of the sport I've loved and will always love. It's the entertainment that gives me a break from everyday life.
It's the NBA season, and it's finally here.
