ASU Women's Volleyball Makes Big Waves

The Women's Volleyball team has had some impressive wins over the length of the season so far, upsetting and sweeping both #12 Oregon and, for the first time since 2012, #15 Washington. They currently stand at 41st in the nation and rank ahead of Arizona, Colorado, Utah, California, and Oregon State in the Pac-12. As of now, they have a very impressive overall record of 13-7, which will hopefully increase in the following week as they face off against both Utah and California, both games being at home.

They've put up some very impressive stats that other Pac-12 and non-conference teams should be wary of when playing ASU. After upsetting Washington, both middle blockers, Senior Carmen Unzue, and Sophomore Megan Beedie combined for a total of 15 kills against the Huskies. Along with hitters, Senior Alyse Ford, Sophomore Claire Kovensky, and Junior Ivana Jeremic all contributing to produce 18 kills in the game versus Washington.

Even the Freshman class is getting their due share, with Keelie Leblanc getting her first start against Binghamton, Paige Denton who currently has 4 digs so far across all her last five games played this season, and an outstanding performance by Avital Jaloba with 9 kills, 6 digs, and 12 blocks from her last five games played.

Despite losing their last match in a Five-Set Thriller against USC, a notable and praise-worthy performance by Claire Kovensky with 17 kills and 2 blocks, Ivana Jeremic with 15 Kills and 2 blocks, Alyse Ford with 12 kills and a block, and Maddie Beedie with 8 kills and 6 blocks. A great performance all around, just not enough to hold back a volleyball powerhouse like USC, but nevertheless, it was a great game.

What's important to take note of is what Head Coach Sanja Tomasevic, has done to implement a culture of winning and helping these young women achieve their goals, not just in terms of volleyball, but in life in general.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
