Don’t get me wrong, I love Wildcats Basketball...but I'm not the type of fan that is so dedicated, I wake up every Sunday morning to reserve my tickets and stand outside 3 hours before the game for a good seat. I'm more the fan that goes to every couple of games, and when I go, I don’t completely know what's even going on. I've chatted with a couple of knowledgable Arizona basketball fans to get some clarification on what exactly is going on in the ZonaZoo madness.
I'm here to make you an expert on all things that have to do with Arizona basketball.
Players you should know.
- Kaleb Tarczewski aka Zeus: One of the tallest players on the team at 7 ft. When he dunks or does something equally as great, ZonaZoo will throw up a Z with their hands. You may hear fans yelling something similar to 'boo' when he is announced, but they are actually yelling “ZEUSSSSS.”
- Rondae Hollis-Jefferson: Rondae shimmy. If you’ve never heard of this, are you sure you even go to U of A? Before every free throw, Rondae has a ritual of doing a little shimmy.
- Brandon Ashley: He was out last season due to a foot injury, but is back this year doing great things.
- Stanley Johnson: A freshmen starter that will soon be headed to the NBA.
- Gabe York: One of the notable shooting guards, he’s that one with the tattoo sleeve.
- T.J. McConnel: All around amazing guard and contributor to the team.
- Dusan Ristic: Another one of the tallest players, also at 7 ft. When he does something commendable, ZonaZoo fans throw up a triangle with their hands.
- Sean Miller: Not a player, but the head coach. Keep an eye out for his facial expressions and sharp attire.
What to do for free throws.
- Hold your hands up in the air while doing spirit fingers and make sure to be completely silent
What to do say when we are on defense.
- Bong: dribbling, every time the ball hits the ground.
- Brick: when they shoot.
- If a player is holding the ball: OHHHHH.
What to do when the opposing team is announced.
- Turn your back the team.
- Say 'sucks' after each person.
What to say when the Wildcats get fouled.
- “You” times 9, “on you, that’s who.”
- If fouled and players makes the shot (and 1), say “hey” times 4 , “no no no no” times 4, “don’t touch me.”
- The other team misses a free throw, say “nice shot buddy.”
Remember all of this, or transfer to ASU.
