First of all, I want to start by saying thank you.
Thank you for all of the memories we made.
Thank you for all of the times you picked me up when I was down and gave me insight when it was much needed.
Thank you for letting me play Dr.Phil when you were upset, angry, or full blown heartbroken.
Thank you for all of the clothes you let me borrow that I never gave back, and for telling me that my outfits were cute even if it looked as though I had just rolled out of bed and thrown something on.
I am grateful that at one point in my life I had someone like you to find comfort in at any time of the day. Whether it be nine p.m. when I wanted half off apps, or one a.m. when I woke you at night because I was sad and needed someone. But most of all, I wanted to thank you for teaching me one of the greatest life lessons I have learned so far. Thank you for teaching me that people change, and that is okay. Sometimes friendships fade when two (or more) people go in different directions, and that is also okay. Although you see it differently, I left our friendship with no remorse. I knew that naturally, we would grow into different people outside the halls of high school. Some friendships are meant to last forever and some are not.
I also learned that sometimes it is okay to be selfish. I chose to go my separate ways to benefit my future. I understand that partying and 'having fun' is a normal thing for kids our age to do. Please understand that I do not judge you, or anyone else who participate in these things. At one point we both had similar oppositions on drinking, so I hope you understand where I am coming from, and I hope you make smart decisions to stay safe. However, I have chosen to stand by my beliefs and live my life without it. While you may not see that yet, I hope you someday realize it and forgive me.
Lastly, I want to thank you for teaching me that some things are best left unspoken. I learned that people can have different views on things. However, I also learned that people can be very stubborn and ignorant. Sometimes you have to pick and choose which battles are worth fighting and which ones are not- Even if that means allowing others to create an unrealistic perception of you. Ultimately, the truth will be revealed one way or another.
I have seen and heard many things since we have last spoken, all of which have helped me gain reassurance that I made that right decision to walk away. Even though we were not meant to stay friends after high school, I hope you find friends in college that will stand by your side through anything and everything. I hope you find happiness, and I hope you soon see our friendship the way I do.
For one last time, I would like to thank you for the memories and the tough lessons that came along with our friendship. I can only hope you understand how greatly they impacted my life.
Thank you.
