Thank you for making me a part of your family.

An Open Letter To My Boyfriend's Family
Keely Brown

I was raised as an only child, so I never had any older sisters to look up to. When I discovered that my boyfriend had two sisters, I was ecstatic and thought that maybe they could be the older sisters I never had. When I first met his family, I was so nervous and tried everything to impress them. It didn't take long for me to figure out they were the most accepting and welcoming family I had ever met. I'm so thankful that they have accepted me as their own and taken such good care of me while I've been dating their son.

To his mother:

Thank you for raising your son to love Christ more than he loves me. Thank you for teaching him respect and manners, as well as responsibility. He is a hard-working man and has a great work ethic. Thank you for always supporting me and encouraging me when I was going through a hard time, and always teaching me about the Lord. I'm so grateful that you so graciously welcomed me in your life and made me feel as if I am a part of your family.

To his father:

Thank for teaching him discipline and hard-work. Thank you for encouraging him to follow God's calling and teaching him to be a God-fearing man. You've set a great example of what it looks like to wait patiently upon the Lord and to be obedient. I appreciate the wisdom and knowledge you've poured into him. I know that because of you, he is going to make a great father one day.

To his sisters:

At first, I was terrified of you. I was scared that you would think I wasn't good enough for your brother, so I tried my hardest to impress you and make you like me. Thankfully, I had nothing to be afraid of. Thank you for being the sisters I never had and treating me like I'm one of you. Thank you for teasing your brother and giving him a sense of humor. I'm thankful for the memories we've shared so far and can't wait for many more to come.

I can't thank you all enough for welcoming me with open arms and treating me like an extra family member. Thank you for caring as much as you do and always wanting the best for me. I love you guys and I couldn't imagine being a part of anyone else's family.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
