Dear feminists, democrats, republicans and everyone in between,
Clearly being a Republican is something to keep to yourself these days and I'm not really sure why. Growing up, my grandpa was a strong minded Republican and I looked up to him; he was the wisest person I have ever known and being a Republican made me proud. This election has made me, as a woman who is a Republican, terrified to tell anyone who I was voting for or what my views were. I was scared because the Democratic feminists, not all, of this great county are just awful. If you aren't with them, well, you are clearly wrong and apparently the devil.
Now, let me explain — because I call myself a Republican I must be a crazy bigot. You think I don't believe in marriage equality, racial equality or a woman’s right to choose and that I want to impose these beliefs on everyone else. Now there are some who do think this way, the far right people. Not all of us feel the same as the people that are far right, actually the majority of us young Republicans do not feel that way.
Since a lot of you may be confused as to what I actually believe in, I'll fill you in. I believe in feminism, as in I believe that men and women are EQUAL, not that if you don't have a uterus you don't have an opinion. I believe in racial and marriage equality. I believe that women have a right to chose and that we shouldn't abolish Planned Parenthood; they do some good things, like give out condoms and do vaginal exams, and I believe in birth control as well. Now you may think that I am a Democrat, but you're wrong. I also believe in welfare but the current system is so broken; people who don't need it have and people who need it can't get it. I do not believe in Obamacare whatsoever. I believe women have the right to choose what happens to their bodies and there are sticky situations like rape, but I would hope that she would choose life and adoption. I believe in our constitutional right like bearing arms and charter schools. I believe in science, I'm even going to school for environmental science (wow, weird right?).
I am a woman. I am young. I am a Republican. I am stereotyped every day because of these things. To the feminists that portray themselves as people that are so for equality; I am disgusted as to how judgmental and harsh some of you can be to people, like myself that have different opinions. Think about what I said and try to open your mind up a little, for people who claim to be very open-minded, all I have seen is close-minded bullying.
Regardless, if anyone actually cares about the future of America, our citizens and the environment we all need to be more open-minded and united.
