Dear Long Distance Best Friend,
When we first became friends, I never really thought much about what our friendship would eventually mean to me. We lived very far from each other, and it didn't seem like maintaining such a friendship would be viable. Remember, when we first met, we still couldn't drive yet! But as those never-ending summer nights turned into spending days and days and days with each other, I knew we had something more than just a temporary friendship.
By the end of the first year of our friendship, I considered you my best friend. Actually, if we're being honest, more like by the end of the first week we met. Something about the first time we met really clicked with me, and it felt as if I had known you for years. We told each other secrets, shared clothing, and talked about boys — which, if you ask me, is the epitome activity of a teenage girl's friendship. We know each other's houses like the back of our hands, treat each other's pets as our own, and it even starts to feel like we have become apart of each other's families when we spend extensive time together.
Long-distance friendships can be a blessing and a curse sometimes. While the drive to see each other might be a pain in the butt, something so great about our friendship is the amount of time we get to spend together when we do see each other. Since we don't live around the block from each other, we usually try to spend at least more than one day together. Because, let's be real, Facetime doesn't always cut it.
Now, going on 5+ years of friendship, you still are my long distance best friend.
Sure, we've had some roadblocks, but what best friends don't fight, right? Being as close as we are definitely has its advantages and disadvantages. And let me tell you, when we fight, we fight. Not because we've got it out for each other, but because we know each other so well, that we know EXACTLY what to say to grind each other's gears. But when it's all said and done, we can make up and go back to how our friendship was 15 minutes ago before we started to fight, and that is what makes our friendship that much more meaningful to me.
I've seen you at your best, and I've seen you at your worst. I've been there through your breaks ups, and I was there for some of your most memorable moments. Most importantly, I want you to know that I will continue to always be there.
We've shared so many countless memories together, and I hope we continue to make more. No matter where life takes us, I hope we are always able to make our way back to each other.
Thank you for putting me in my place when I'm being irrational. Thank you for those late nights spent laughing hours on end. Thank you for the spontaneous food trips. Thank you for driving so far to spend time with me. Thank you for always picking me up when I fall. Thank you for being you.
Love,
Your Long Distance Best Friend
