Amy Schumer is a quality comedian, writer, producer, director, and, newly, an actress. She has a long history with comedy, starting with the off-Broadway show "Keeping Abreast." Moving into stand-up comedy seemed like a practical transition for her, since the show was a comedy show. She performed at Gotham Comedy Club and made her name on Comedy Central. The "Live at Gotham" episode she did really got her name out there, which resulted in "Last Comic Standing." She did several other television appearances and shows before she did a sketch comedy series for Comedy Central called "Inside Amy Schumer."
Schumer was seen as a new comedian in television and stand-up. She had a clean slate to make her debut in the film industry. This allowed for her to exceed everyone’s expectations, since there were none. With the new movie, "Trainwreck," Schumer took everyone by surprise. It's a hilarious movie with Bill Hader, Lebron James, and Brie Larson, but Amy Schumer really steals the show. She acted in and wrote the screenplay for the movie. This is a much bigger industry than the stand-up comedy industry she was pulling from at the start of her career.
Comedy is a profession that isn’t always seen as a successful pathway, but it definitely set Amy Schumer up for success. A lot of actors who go straight into the film industry are lost. Schumer had to write her own shows and make her way to the top, allowing her to know what was necessary for the film industry and how to make it bigger than just as a normal actress. She knew what she wanted from her debut into the film industry, and it definitely shows. She’s been taking advantage of this by advocating for things she believes in and is therefore highly respected in her profession.
The media attention that Schumer has received in the past few months has rarely been negative. She took everyone by surprise and gave them no time to criticize. Usually, people in film have been around for a while. It was refreshing to see a new face. Now it seems like she’s everywhere, getting her name out there by being on a lot of news and late night shows. Schumer is definitely efficient in the way she markets herself.
She also is qualified for all of these things. She worked her way there. She isn’t just someone who dropped out of school and went right into acting. She went to college and then studied at the William Esper Studio. She definitely has the background to back her up in any or all of the industries she wishes to continue her career in. I think we’re all just excited to see what she does next, since "Trainwreck" was such a success. Amy Schumer is definitely someone to watch in the coming months and years in comedy and film.
