I have a tattoo on my left wrist. It is an arrow, pointing forward, with a semi-colon included in it. Prior to getting this tattoo I had done a lot of research on what I wanted to get, and the explanation I would give people who wondered what my ink meant.
"An arrow can only be shot by pulling it backward. When life is dragging you down with difficulties, it means it's going to launch you into something great. So keep focus and keep aiming. & a semicolon is used when an author could've chosen to end their sentence, but chose not to. The author is you and the sentence is your life."
Each time I look down at my wrist, I don't see the $45 I spent or the mark an artist drew on me that will be etched on my body forever, I see a reminder:
Keep moving forward.
If I have a bad day or something doesn't go in the direction I hoped it would, I just look down at my tattoo and am reminded to keep moving forward.
I am a firm believer in the saying, "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger." I recently wrote an article revolved around that mindset, which you can read here. Move on, and build yourself up to be stronger than anything that may knock you down.
This, to me, is so important to keep in mind every day. You will go through trials and tribulations in life, but if you choose to keep moving forward instead of letting loss and all the bad stuff run your life, you will be so much happier.
I also believe there are so many amazing things ahead of us, things that are a million times better than anything or anyone we leave in the past. How can we get excited and embrace those changes if we still hold on to what we lost? You have to keep moving forward.
One of my favorite Disney movies is "Meet the Robinsons." I remember seeing it in the movie theater as a kid, and the important message shown throughout the movie has stuck with me after all these years. It still inspires me every day:
Walt Disney himself expanded that message for us:
Moving forward and doing new things are two important elements to living your life. Sure, something may come up, but just because it changes doesn't mean it's the end of the world. We must travel down new paths in order to move forward in our lives, and discover where we truly need to be.
So take a deep breath. Enjoy this journey called life. Eventually, you will be where you are meant to be, have people in your life that are meant to be there, and do what you are destined to do. Times may be tough, but don't stay down in the dumps.
All you have to do is keep moving forward.
