I've written a couple times about how great distractions are and in a time where we might give 2 billion dollars of taxpayer money to a wall that won't accomplish much of anything other than being an act of symbolic nationalism, we could use one:
So thank God, or whatever you worship, because March Madness is here.
That's right, it's time for the NCAA College Basketball tournament. There is nothing like it in any other sport and it's predictably pretty crazy every year. Usually, there's at least one lovable underdog team that wins per year, and when it happens it can make everybody fall out of their seat:
If you're watching with friends, there usually is also gonna be one "oh I knew that guy from high school/back home/whatever", which happened last year with a friend and the best player on 15 seeded Middle Tennessee State:
Either way, at least some subgroup of your friend group will be watching, and that, combined with St. Patrick's Day this weekend, should be more than enough to distract you from whatever may be bugging you this weekend.
Whether you live for the tournament, friendly competition, have a school in the tournament (sucks to BU), or just like beer and wings:
Then March Madness is for you.
There also is the bracket challenge, a mostly pointless exercise, but one that millions do every year with hopes of getting the perfect bracket which will net them millions, or at the very least, beating their friends. I can say that while I haven't won yet (and so far can comfortably say I won't this year), you can't deny that it's fun, even if you know your bracket is gonna be busted anyway. Sometimes it'll give you moments like this, that are unforgettable (and for this writer, lose him a decent chunk of money):
Let the madness begin.
