Dear Class of 2017,
First of all, congratulations. You made it to senior year-you've survived freshman year, the year of sweet 16s and drivers licenses, and you've survived the year you realized you had to get serious about your grades because junior year grades matter on a college application. You have no idea how much stress the first half of senior year is going to be so buckle up.
The first few months of the year will be filled with re-taking SATS, college applications, and waiting. Remember to relax-you deserve a break every once in a while. Besides, life moves fast and if you don't stop to look around every once in a while, you might miss it. If there's a cliche quote that accurately describes senior year better than that, well I haven't found it yet. Once you finish sending your last college application (if college is where you want to end up, that is) the waiting will feel like it'll kill you. It will feel like years have passed by the time you get your responses back. It'll be okay-there will be at least one college that'll accept you. You just have to find the right one and you can't be scared of getting rejected by at least one college. Odds are, it's going to happen. The first time you open a rejection letter is going to hurt a little bit, it's going to suck but don't put your sense of self-worth into that one letter.
The second half of senior year is going to fly by-I know you've probably heard that a lot by now but it's true. Make sure you enjoy every second of it-memorize the hallways, the laugh of the girl who sits behind you in English class. Don't get wrapped up in any prom drama that might occur, prepare yourself for some emotional goodbyes. Do not under any circumstance let senior slide consume you. It is a real thing and people get acceptance letters revoked because of it. It's okay to senior slide a little but don't let yours be too drastic. Don't be sad if you lose a couple friends this year/summer-people start drama with friends so they aren't as sad when leaving for college.
Good luck, class of 2017. You finally made it.
