I have lived in Michigan for most of my life; it’s where I grew up. Michigan is full of special attractions you can’t find anywhere else. If you ever have the chance to travel to Michigan, here are some places you can’t miss when you stop by.
- The Cherry Bowl drive-in, in Honor. This is an old-fashioned, family-friendly setting. A double feature plays every night, which consists of a children’s movie followed by one for adults. It’s tradition to honk your horn before the first movie starts.
- Frederik Meijer Gardens. This beautiful sculpture garden is filled with fun activities for any age. In the center of the gardens is a child-friendly park that is full of interactive activities. Inside is a wonderful greenhouse that is home to butterflies of all different species.
- The Detroit Zoo. There are many smaller zoos located in Michigan like John Ball, Binder Park, Air zoo, and Potter Park- but out of all of these, Detroit is one of the largest ones in Michigan. It houses over 280 species!
- Michigan Adventures. Love roller coasters? Well this is definitely the place to go. It’s filled with hours of amusement. It includes two parks for the price of one. You can ride roller coasters or enjoy their water park.
- Henry Ford Museum. If you are more into historical events, this is definitely one you should check out. It is a indoor and outdoor museum that is recognized as a national historic landmark.
- Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Probably the greatest place for a child. The museum's main audience is children, ranging in ages. The entire museum is an interactive activity, helping children and adults learn about science through a hands-on experience.
- Fort Mackinac. The cool thing about Michigan is that it has an upper peninsula! How cool is that?! In the upper peninsula, also known as the U.P., there is an island called Mackinac Island. It’s one of the biggest tourist destinations in the state of Michigan. It’s full of wonderful sights, restaurants, dune climbs, and historical landmarks. Fort Mackinac is a huge part of the island. It’s an American military fort from the 18th century that has been since transformed into a museum.
- Traverse City. This city is known for its cherries! It is also the home of the Cherry Republic store, which produces any type of product made from cherries. It also features various vineyards, natural attractions, freshwater beach, and so much more!
- Van Andel Arena. Home to the Griffins hockey team, it plays as an ice arena as well as a concert hall. It is used for multiple purposes and can hold over 10,000 people at once.
- Grand Haven State Park. This one is my personal favorite; I go to the beach a lot with my friends and this is always our number one choice. A tradition is to always get pronto pups while in Grand Haven. Pronto pups, an American classic, are hot dogs on a stick dipped in batter and fried. Another attraction is their musical fountain -- at night they have a large fountain that puts on a light show to music. Afterwards, you can walk the pier and enjoy the lighthouse and sunset. It definitely makes you think pure Michigan.
