You owe it to yourself not to become stagnant. You owe it to yourself to grow, to advance, to replenish. You owe it to yourself to be better than who you were yesterday. Far too often we allow ourselves to do nothing when there is always something to be done. We often reach a goal or achievement and stop there. Whats next?
Perfection doesn’t and never will exist. Not when things can always be better. How do you perfect something that has an infinite amount of space and opportunity to grow in to? In this lifetime Im not aiming to reach my highest potential because truly I’ll never be able to. I’ll die before I reach the proficiency of my being. However, my goal is to master that of which that seems unattainable. That may sound confusing but let me elaborate.
Throughout my life Ive been told many times that I couldn’t do certain things. I was told that some stuff was just impossible. Ive been constantly ridiculed for my choice of lifestyle. I’ve been told that I would be nothing in my line of work. I’ve been told that I should choose to do something else with my life because this would be “too hard.”
Throughout my entire life I’ve always been given the easy option. “Why do this when its so much easier to do that?” It wasn’t until my junior of high school when I decided and truly took control over my life. I realized that this is my story and the pages that I am writing I must live with forever.
Those that cannot understand tend to criticize.
It was learning and truly understanding what that meant that made me realize just because the road isn’t paved out and the light isn’t shining brightly, doesn’t mean that it can’t be done. It was in that moment that I promised myself that my dreams will be more than dreams, they will become reality. I knew that I couldn’t plan to much on the route I would take simply because life happens sometimes and things usually don’t go how you planned but I never lost sight of the end goal.
I also began to make side goals for myself. For example for anyone out there that plays video games, most times you have one main goal, one main objective, but before you ultimately reach the last battle and beat the game there are little side missions one must do that end up ultimately benefitting you at the end. Everything you had to do eventually comes together with the main goal to make perfect sense. Thats how I look at life.
You must set side goals for yourself. Take up a new hobby, learn new skill or language. Travel to certain places and learn about someone else culture and way of life. Challenge your mind and expand. The mind is truly a terrible thing to waste. Just as is the body. As you get older things will become harder to do, life may move a little slower and things may become redundant and stagnant but the prosperity of your life is still up to you.
P.S.: Always remember, your only real competition in this world, is you.
