One of the worst things that college has to offer is the separation of you and your best friend. Whether you and your high school best friend(s) went to different schools or your best friends from college decided to transfer, it always sucks being at a different school than them. This separation can lead to a lot of things happening while you're apart and I'm here to outline just a few of them with the help of Meredith Grey, Christina Yang, and the rest of the Grey's Anatomy crew.

1. Skype and phone calls are essential.

You know that your life would not be complete without seeing your best friend's shining face or hearing their voice at least twice a month, but in all reality you know it needs to be way more often than that. This connection is worth so much more than a text even if those texts are loaded with emojis expressing your love for them and how much you miss them.

2. You look around for them whenever an inside joke is unknowingly brought up.

Or really just whenever something super hysterical happens that you know you would be crying laughing about. Even if you don't physically look around for them, they are always in your thoughts in moments like these. It sucks to have them miss out on these stellar jokes, but it's not like you don't immediately text them all of the details about what just happened and how awesome it would have been.

3. All your college friends know who they are.

And they're probably tired of hearing about how amazing they are. Your college friends probably know all about that one time you had a legitimate battle with purple frosting and Nutella just because or the countless times you drove past a that guy's house and started yelling out the windows of the car or when you walked through the McDonald's drive-thru or that other time when -- I'm sorry what was I saying? Oh, right. There's no way your friends from school don't know who your best friends' are.

4. When they visit, you want to show them absolutely everything about your "other" life.

You spend hours planning out what you're going to do while they are there to make sure that everything gets covered. And for the friends who haven't had a chance to visit you sometimes find yourself thinking about what you would do if they were able to come up for a weekend. They don't know how you live without them so it is your job to show them every facet of your life so they are assured that 1) you're doing okay and 2) it would still be better if they were there all the time.

5. You miss them more when people from school don't understand things from home.

It just isn't the same when you talk about your favorite hangouts or sports teams or whatever without your best friend. Your college friends just look at you weird and if you try to explain it at least they'll understand what you're talking about but they still won't get why it's cool or important.

6. You have to fill them in on details they missed out on since the last time you talked.

This also means you have to deal with the consequences when those details include something major that you failed to text or call them about as soon as it happened. This can be exhausting but it's worth it because if your best friends don't know every tiny detail of your life are they really your best friends?

7. They hate anyone that you say you hate.

Even if they have never met because they are hundreds of miles away. The second you start complaining to your bestie about that annoying girl in your gen ed class, they immediately don't like her. Or if someone wrongs you, the person who did so better believe that your best friends have already heard about it and are more than likely already in the car on their way to fix it.

8. You pretty much just want them there all the time.

This is an obvious one, but you just can't help wanting to be with your best friends all the time. If they were at school with you life would just be so much better and way easier. You've probably tried at least once to convince your best friend to drop everything and come live with you and they've probably seriously considered it.

9. You pick up right where you left off when you're reunited.

When the day finally comes that you are reunited with your best friend it's like you were never apart. You pick right back up on your Netflix binging or cookie baking or Starbucks runs or whatever it is you usually do together. The conversation never ends and even if it does the silence isn't awkward, it's comfortable. Everything is the way it should be and the world can go back to normal.

Being apart from your best friends during college can really suck but if you're lucky enough to have wonderful people in your life it'll be okay because you know they are always there for you whether they're standing by your side or on the other side of the phone.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
