1. Everyone is nice.
You have never been around so many genuine people. Band people are one of a kind and within minutes of knowing them will become your friends. They are okay with being themselves and aren't afraid to laugh at their mistakes. And that rubs off on me.
2. Football perks.
On top of free admission and priority seating the camera just can’t stay away. Our faces are nearly impossible to get off of the jumbotron.
3. The art of performing.
I love to dance and to smile and I have been doing things on stage since I was little. As soon as I picked up a flag I knew I didn’t want to put it down. The feeling of throwing a toss and catching it with one hand is outstanding. The feeling of performing in front of tons of thousands of people is amazing. And performing with a live band surrounding all around you is unheard of.
4. It’s completely unique.
It’s indescribable as to what the marching band does. So much time and effort goes into it and the only way you can do it is with heart. Marching in time while playing music and watching for cues and following a set of drills in a show is unbelievable. A reason why I like marching band so much is because it is so unique. It sets all of us apart.
5. Teamwork.
We take teamwork to a whole new level. It’s a whole different kind of team. We all know that if one section or individual messes up then that means the whole of a band unfortunately did. We take hours and hours of practice to put together a show that each person is accountable for. You can’t replace someone because then there will be a hole and the dynamic is thrown off. You can always count on a band person to always pull their weight.
6. You get super tan.
After a week of 9 to 9 practices in hot weather for band camp and having our weekly hours during the fall of the school year we get lovely shade of tan. People in the winter will ask you why you are so tan and you can give the marching band a huge shout out!
7. We are overly determined.
We take corrections to a point that we will prove to you that we can do it and prove to ourselves. We learned that we are not perfect and that sometimes people will tell us what to do. Instead of ignoring we genuinely take it into consideration. You can count on someone in band to always do this.
8. It changes you.
I had no idea what I was capable of until I joined. I struggled at first and I still struggle now. Which makes me more in-tuned to my mistakes and being in band has taught me to not think too hard and keep going. You will grow into a well rounded citizen and band will give you confidence. Because half time is game time and the football games would not be the same without us.
