8 Reasons To Love The Holidays

So it's already October? You know what that means?! The next couple of months are going to be filled with holiday decorations, commercials, parties and music galore. It is indeed the best time of year. So here are eight reasons that you should LOVE the holidays.

1. Cooler Weather

This means layers on top of layers of clothes. You can finally break out that scarf you got on the clearance rack over the summer and those awesome riding boots you have been dying to break out of the box. Leggings, baggy shirts, cardigans, boots and scarves are the go to outfit for fall weather. It is comfy, casual and can easily be dressed up with any accessory for a night out with friends.

2. Food

Holiday flavored foods are the BEST! From pumpkin spice, salted caramel to peppermint, or eggnog flavored everything this is something that everyone loves to indulge in during this fun time of the year. So it's time to go grab the ingredients and get to cookin' or as I'd rather do hit up the closest Starbucks to grab a few of your holiday favorites.

3.Traditions

Everyone has their own little traditions whether it's with family or friends. Picking apples, going to the pumpkin patch or throwing your very first annual tacky Christmas sweater party, This is the time to enjoy being around each other, and if you don't have any traditions it's never too late to start.

4. Family Time

Don't we all just love our families and the holidays? This is probably the one time of year that they begin making those phone calls, booking those flights, and start periodically checking in on you when you haven't heard from them since last Christmas. They come around Thanksgiving and don't seem to leave you alone until after the new year and begin to drift apart again. Sometimes under stress we say things we don't mean while fighting over who gets the last piece of turkey or who got the better presents this year, but something about the holidays with extended family is bittersweet.

5. Shopping

Who doesn't like to shop? Whether it's shopping for your Pinterest copy of a Halloween costume, or getting up bright and early the day after turkey day to get catch those sales; you know that the stress is all worth it in the end. You tell yourself every year you are gonna wait until Cyber Monday and avoid all of the craziness, but who are you kidding? Spending the quality time with your mom, aunt, sister, and grandma is exactly what you signed up for.

6. Movies

All of the movies you have been waiting for all summer long are finally here. Starting in October there is a classic favorite for everyone out there. It's the perfect time to get that go to snack and snuggle up with the boyfriend, have a girls night, or just some time to yourself to enjoy this joyous time of year.

7. Theme Parties

You can take your pick from Halloween up until New Years. There are plenty of opportunities to have your annual parties with all of your family and friends or time to start something new. Pick out your outfit, put together some photo props, bake some food to go with the theme and put on the holiday Pandora station and you're good to go.

8. Seasons Change

As with everything else you can see the seasons change in a blink of an eye, unless like myself you live in Alabama where it's a different season at least three times a week. Wherever you may be take the time out of your day to enjoy the wonderful foliage of the leaves or snowflakes falling to the ground. If anything this is the BEST reason to enjoy the holidays.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
