1. Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.
First of all, no. Second of all, no. Besides the obvious eating disorder implication, I (and Jennifer Lawrence) can name a lot of foods I would refuse to give up in the name of skinny. Donuts, Gushers, Oreo Balls, Ramen Noodles, Hamburgers, Chinese Food, the list goes on. Stop making people feel bad about their bodies. You shouldn’t have to think about weight every time you sit down to have a meal or a snack.
2. Real girls don’t wear wings.
A promotion by Aerie in lieu of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show. Just because someone is super fit (and gets paid to be super fit) and has a nice body doesn’t make them fake or any less of a person. A number of tweets followed this ad with comments like “eat a sandwich” or “being that skinny is gross” which is HURTFUL to people who also look like that. So stop body-shaming all around and just love each other for a little bit, okay?!?!?
3. Stop crossing oceans for people that wouldn’t jump a puddle for you.
I’m all for protecting yourself, don’t get me wrong. But if this world needs anything it’s definitely not LESS love. Some people don’t know or aren’t taught that love might be crossing that ocean and you might have to cross it like 8 times to show them. Just because someone doesn’t show love the same way, doesn’t mean you should stop giving it. Some people just need a little more nice.
4. Find what you love and let it kill you.
No. Maybe I don’t fully understand this quote and there is some deeper understanding that I am not privy to. However, nothing I have found ever worth loving has torn me down. Whether it's family, relationships, friendships, hobbies, ANYTHING, I’ve always thought that it should lift you higher.
5. Boys like girls who/Girls like boys who...
SHUT UP.
6. A girl should be like a butterfly, pretty to see and hard to catch.
Okay so if you know me, you laugh just reading this because any sentence that starts with “a girl should” and doesn’t end with “be whoever she wants to be” or “do whatever she wants” is three strikes out in my book. No, no, no. Girls don’t have to be pretty and they can be easy to catch if they want to be caught. There are no guidelines for how to act or look and it’s this kind of assumptions that prohibit progress.
7. Best friends is a promise, not a label.
I mostly just hate this quote because it's been picnik’d on too many photos.
8. This is why I don’t have a boyfriend (often following weird movements, hobbies or comments)
Just, no.
Now, to avoid being bitter (again – this is becoming a theme), below you will find a lovely list of quotes that don’t bug me to inspire you into creating fabulous 2016.
1. Own who you are.
2. Sometimes all you need is 20 seconds of insane courage. Just 20 seconds of embarrassing bravery.
3. Everyone you meet knows something you don’t.
4. You’re not the kind of girl/boy who settles. Keep not settling. (This can apply to things other than relationships, you guys.)
5. I never dreamed about success I worked for it.
6. Never stop doing your best just because someone doesn’t give you credit.
7. I love the person I’ve become because I’ve fought to become him/her.
8. I figure, if a girl/boy wants to be a legend, she/he should go ahead and be one.
And to offset the negatives and start your week with some positivity...
