"Me time" is the time to focus on yourself and do what makes you happy. This time can be spent running outdoors or relaxing in a bubble bath, but the point is you take the time to be alone with yourself and focus on only your needs.
It is important to set aside specific "me time" and make it often enough for you depending on the stress in your life. I like to squeeze in a little "me time" at least once a day because it gives me a chance to collect my thoughts and calm down after classes.
When partaking in "me time" there is no right or wrong way to do it. It is a time customized to you and what you enjoy. To ensure that you are getting the most out of your time for yourself, here are a few things to keep in mind.
1. Relax
Although this one might come naturally, it may be hard for some to do. This time is meant for you and you only. It is not the time to think about the stresses of the world around you. Relaxing will help you de-stress and level your way of thinking.
2. Focus on the moment
When you only think about what you are doing at the moment you are doing it, you don't worry about what will come or stress about what already happened. You think about only what is important right now.
3. Do something you enjoy
Everyone is different and the things that make us happy are not all the same. To have a meaningful "me time" you need to do whatever it is that makes you the happiest, like reading a book, listening to music or working out. Anything that makes you smile.
4. Get to know yourself
During your "me time" you might discover new things about yourself. You might enjoy doing something you never thought you would. This is why it is important to test yourself and get to know where you draw the line.
5. Pamper yourself
Everyone deserves to be pampered every once in awhile. This time is about treating yourself by focusing on only what you want or need. So why not go above and beyond your normal wants and needs?
6. Be comfortable with yourself
Through this experience you will find what your biggest strengths and weaknesses are based on what you decide to avoid and what you put more attention toward. Being comfortable with who you are is important to understand how to give yourself the best "me time."
7. Take stock of your life
As this time comes to an end, remember to think about everything in your life and how far you have come. Be proud of yourself and be thankful for everything you have.
Now set back your clocks because... it's me time!
