Why It Is Okay To Be Alone Sometimes

"When I’m by myself, I can be myself, which is what I want to be. Not just a part of someone else." -Jean Culligan

In school or at home there will be a time when you are alone. Sometimes, I will be alone in my house only hearing the wind or my dogs feet across the floor. When my roommates step out and I realize I have that moment of silence where I can think to myself is reassuring. So remember, it is okay to be alone sometimes.

When you are alone you can't help but think. Think of emotions, situations, life, or even what you just ate. It is healthy to be alone sometimes. I find it therapeutic. Going on a run by myself, taking a hike, laying down, trying on clothes, being in the shower, or even cleaning to me is content. You are you, so you know how you feel in a moment, or what you want. So go ahead and be covered under four blankets watching Netflix in the dark alone. It is time for you to do what you want and think what you want. You can cry to a Nicholas Sparks movie or die laughing to a movie even if you hate your laugh, because only you can judge. I like to go out to cafes alone, order something small and look out the window or treat myself to something, make conversations in my head and enjoy the people who I notice around me. Sleep alone in your bed, it is good to spread out, use your pillow to cuddle and enjoy the space you have. You should try on that dress or shirt when no one is around, smile and pose in the mirror or make conversations to yourself even if it is weird. I know I catch myself trying on the roommates clothes or heels and go to the mirror to stare at my legs or admire how I feel. When I am alone I feel confident, because I enjoy myself and no one else can give a look or think a thought because I am alone. Even if you are in a relationship, everyone deserves their alone time.

Take the time to be alone, and spend time with yourself. Get to know yourself and think to yourself to give advice. So drive down a road alone, even if you don't know where you are going. Dance in your room to music lyrics you don't understand. Go for a run, or eat a healthy meal alone knowing you are feeling good. And, if not, go eat a cheeseburger while binge watching that show you can't get enough of and regret it (or don't regret it) later on. Take this time to know your own surroundings, your own wants and needs. See what stimulates and encourages you. Create your own dreams, and follow your own heart. Only your eyes matter for how you look and only your mind matters for how you feel. Become sure of yourself, and become sure of what you want and what you know you need in life. Depend on yourself and become strong and powerful. Don't ever change, and take your time alone to know all of this. Be your own clarity in life, and the free living human you are. Once you realize being alone is okay, you will realize you are your own best friend and you are confident in everything about you. If you find someone to feel the same way you feel about yourself you will realize the time you spent/spend alone will be worth it.

So it is okay to be alone sometimes, I enjoy it for sure. So you should enjoy it too - enjoy your own company and your own humor and beauty.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
