Thanksgiving is that time of year that we typically focus on the aspects of food, family, and fall weather. However, in this day and age, because we believe that this holiday's about the food, family, and fall weather, we often forget that the main reason for the holiday is to give thanks for all that we’ve been given and blessed with. As Trojans, we should be exceptionally thankful for quite a few things.
1. Our campus.
I mean, look at it. People look at photos of it all the time and claim they want to go here, just because of how beautiful it is. Walking through this campus, we take it for granted every day by complaining about having to go to class, the professors we're about to hear from, or the amount of people at USC in general. We could easily be on another campus somewhere that's not as beautiful as ours. Photo credit: Google Images.
2. Our education.
It sounds cheesy and cliché and while we don’t always like or appreciate the education we’ve received, it’s an education that we can’t get anywhere else. Being one of the top colleges in the country, we should definitely be thankful that we’re getting an education from such an amazing institution as USC, with its problems and all. 3. The friends we've made.
Let’s be real: Trojans are some of the best people you will ever meet.
4. Surviving the semester (so far).
I don't know about you, but I wasn't sure if I was going to make it there for a minute.
5. Being part of a bigger family.
The Trojan Family, that is. It’s actually amazing how big the Trojan Nation is and that we really do treat each other as if we are brothers and sisters. From finding each other jobs to making connections across several industries, the Trojan Family is nothing to take for granted. Photo credit: Google images.
6. Our parents.
We should be definitely be thankful for our parents -- for a lot of us, being international and out of state students, California’s not too close for us. They've let us come this far, supported us all this time (financially, emotionally, physically, etc.) and shaped us into people that USC is proud to call Trojans. So thank you, parental units, for being incredible.
7. The mistakes we've made.
College is often called the best time of your life and mostly because we all discover who we really are and embrace it, making all the mistakes we can at this point. It’s all a learning curve and while we may not like the mistakes we’ve made, they’re all making us better people, whether we like it or not.
While you're sitting around the table trying to refrain from digging into the turkey before the holiday prayer and figuring out how you're going to survive the post-Thanksgiving-dinner-itis (a.k.a. the biggest food coma of the year), remember these seven things you have to be thankful for. You're growing as a person and as you finish out the year, take a look back and see where you started and who helped you get to where you are today. I promise you that you've got lots to be thankful for.
