Being genuinely happy should be a given, but unfortunately for some, life just gets in the way. However, you don't have to spend your life miserable. You shouldn't spend it miserable. I recently took my happiness into my own hands and it is absolutely incredible how much my life has transformed. For those of you who are struggling to build the life you've always dreamed of, there are ways to focus on yourself and take control of your own happiness, and I promise that when you do, your world will change.
1.You'll take more risks.
And hopefully they will be good risks. But even if you take a ride on the wild side, taking risks is a great thing. When you stop fearing failure, you will try new things! When you try new things, you will find more of what makes you happy!
2. You'll acquire opportunities you never thought to be possible.
This goes with taking risks! When you're happy, you're more willing to put yourself out there! It's scary, but think about all that could come of it! You'll shoot for the stars, because you know you are one, and you'll end up achieving things you never though you could.
3. You won't care what people think.
You'll realize that the things that make you joyful are way more important than what people think about you. So, if you love dancing to disco music in the sunshine of a big field and it makes your heart smile, then you go ahead and do it. People may stare, but let them! I'm sure you're a lot happier than all of the stagnant people passing by. You do you, fam, and you'll love life a lot more for it.
4. You'll be more productive.
When you stop dwelling on all the sad aspects of your life (because they no longer exist), you will have so much more time! Instead of laying on your floor, staring at the ceiling, letting your mind spiral into the depths of despair, you'll fill all of that time with productivity! Get your homework done, exercise, eat right, follow your dreams, all of that cliché productivity and a huge weight will be lifted from your shoulders. You've taken control of your happiness, and now you can take back control of the rest of your life.
5. The grass will literally be greener.
Some say that "the grass is always greener on the other side," but when you take care of your garden, the flowers that are your life will bloom into a garden fit for a fairytale. When you are happy, the whole world transforms. Louis Armstrong said it right; it's a "wonderful world." The trees will be more majestic, the grass will be greener, the flowers more vibrant, the sky bluer, and even gray skies will seem beautiful in their own eerie darkness. When you are happy, the earth seems happy.
6. You'll appreciate the people you love more.
When you're unhappy with every aspect of your life, you're kind of blind to what everyone does for you. It's like you're wearing a mask made of your own sadness. I realize, thinking back on some of my darker times, that I owe certain people in my life a lot of Thank You's. I know now that I will devote my entire life trying to show my appreciation for certain people, and still not be able to repay my friends and family for their supportive, loving, and selfless actions. I owe everything to them. And maybe it's a little late, but to those few who have always been there, I love you. When you take control of your own happiness, you will see all the love you have in your life, and want to give it right back to your people.
7.You'll appreciate yourself.
You are an incredible person, and when you finally realize it, you will treat yourself the way you deserve to be treated. You are smart, kind, ambitious, and capable of anything you want to achieve. Appreciate yourself.
I'm not saying that life will always be perfect, but when you make your happiness a priority, your life will become the beautiful thing it should be. You will have the life you deserve.
