7 Things That Happen When You Come Home From College

"Hey!! How are you?! How's college? How are your grades?!"

So the holidays are finally here and guess what that means? Yup. You guessed it right. You get to go home to your loved ones. While this can be both exciting and daunting there are a few things that happen once you do get home and for the most part they're inevitable. But hey, who says that has to be a bad thing?!

1. Tons and tons of hugs

Guys, it's like they never end. Especially once you try to leave (Yes, I'm talking to you mom). That's okay though because hugs make the world go round, right?

2. Home cooked meals

The first time you have a home cooked meal after months of either eating out of your dorm or making multiple trips to your campus cafeterias is a pretty special moment, especially when you eat with the rest of your family.

3. Finally seeing your animals

Okay, I'm pretty sure I speak for about 95% of the population of college students when I say that one of the best things about going home is seeing your dog or your cat or your rabbit, etc. Whatever animal(s) you may have, the point is that you've missed them terribly and they've missed you.

4. The "Is there anyone in particular in your life or..?" question

Brace yourselves for this one question. With Thanksgiving in only a few days and Christmas and New Years right around the corner, there is no escaping this conversation. No way. Whether it's friends, family, co-workers, there's just no way out. Nobody is safe.

5. Seeing old friends that you haven't seen in months

One of the best feelings is finally getting to see your back-home friends after being tossed and left to fend for yourself (thanks mom and dad) in an entirely different town with people you've never met before (just kidding, who doesn't love traveling to different places and meeting new people?).

6. "How's college?"

What you want to say: "Oh, it's great. I've only had about 321950716581 breakdowns, had to complete a test where half of the material was never taught in class or in the textbook, contemplated walking dogs for a living instead, and pulled at least twenty all nighters. I'm good. It's good. Everything is good." *smiles through the pain*

What you actually say: "It's going really well!! I've met so many people, I'm having the time of my li-." "Oh.. my, my grades? Oh no no..haha.. we don't need to talk about those. Haha hahaha hah.. not of importance. Oh my goodness you'd never believe how beautiful the rec center is and the football games are so much fun! Here let me show you some pictures of me and my friends this past Saturday!"

7. Sleeping in your own bed

That's all I have to say about that.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
