7 Reasons You Should Go To The University Of Nebraska, Lincoln

1. The copious amounts of corn

Our mascot is the Corn Husker, need I say more?

2. Tradition

From the Kissing Columns to the Iron Fence to the football program, UNL is all about tradition. And YOU can learn about these traditions and many more that make UNL unique.

3. Game day

Football is everything in Nebraska. There really aren't words to describe game day in Lincoln, I guess you will have to come here to figure it out. You become part of something that is bigger than yourself, or anything you have ever experienced. Win or lose, fans are still proud to call themselves the Huskers.

4. Memorial Stadium

I mean, have you seen it? It holds about 90,000 people at once, and is always sold out (over 340 consecutive games and counting), plus that's bragging rights to your other friends who go to other schools and think their program is huge.

5. The Zoo

Alright, so the Lincoln Zoo is kind of a let down unless you are under the age of 5... but lucky for us, the Omaha Zoo is right down the road!

6. The city

Lincoln is no NYC or anything, but it definitely has its charms. There are many cute stores to go to on weekend nights and to take your visiting friends to. Plus the architecture is amazing, so if you are into photography, finding people who would want to help model in you photo shoot should be easy.

7. The people

As an out-of-state student, I was nervous coming to college where most of the population was from Nebraska, but there was nothing to worry about. People here are so open and welcoming to you, out-of-state students have no trouble finding an amazing group of friends who become family over the next nine months.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
