College is already a pretty stressful environment, and midterms only make it worse. It is so important to self-care during these stressful times. Self-care literally means to take care of yourself and to make sure that you are healthy and happy. This doesn’t seem like it would be a hard concept to follow, but it can be surprisingly difficult, especially during the extra stressful times. Here are some relatively easy ways to practice self-care in college.
1. Sleep
Sleep is going to be your best friend during these stressful times. It is great for the body and mind so even if you can’t get the full recommended eight hours, try to fit a nap in when you can.
2. Hydrate
Staying hydrated is so important and surprisingly difficult to do. Pro tip –– carry a water bottle with you and aim to drink two to three a day. Tea is another great way to hydrate, and I would highly recommend investing in some stress relief or sleepy time tea.
3. Move around
Yoga is amazing for stress, but if you don't have the time to spare, go for a quick walk or even a run! Bonus points if you do something outside in the fresh air!
4. Clean
My mom strongly believes that when you are feeling stressed, anxious or upset in any way you should start cleaning. Her argument is that even though you may not feel better, at least, everything will look nice. If you don't feel like cleaning your whole room take a study break and do a "10-second tidy" where just clean up a little of what you see. This way you can take a break but still do something productive.
5. Be social
Sometimes locking yourself up in the library or in your dorm can get pretty lonely. Take some time to talk to your parents or siblings. Try to see your friends for a bit even if it's just in a group study session. Midterms suck, but you don't need to suffer through them alone.
6. Treat yo self
Finally, my biggest piece of advice is to treat yo self. College is hard. Do something that makes you happy. Watch some
Now go out and show those midterms whose boss (while taking good care of yourself).
