Hell weeks and midterms have quickly crept up on us, and trust me, you're not alone when you say you're stressed. This is the busiest time of the semester as spring break is right around the corner. Everything seems to be piling up and sometimes you may think you don't have time to breathe. But it's OK, because there is a lot you can do to help resolve your stress this week.
1. Plan
Personally, one of my favorite things to do is organize my calendar and use my reminders app for everything I have to do. It feel so rewarding to check something off and see it disappear. Plan ahead for the week and make sure you know what you want to get done each day rather than the week as a whole. Make sure you're putting all of your dates and assignments in the same place and make sure it is somewhere you check often!
2. Take a break
Go get coffee, take a drive and sing in the car, eat a snack. There is so much you can do, but sometimes the best thing you can do is step away from your work for a little and refresh. Sitting in the same seat all day may make it seem like you're doing a lot, and then when you do not get a lot done you won't be happy. Take multiple breaks or change locations every once in a while.
3. Do something relaxing
Do something that relaxes you like listening to some John Mayer or go get yourself an adult coloring book as a break! Everyone is different and has something that calms them. Some people can listen to music while they do their homework or study while others can't. Sometimes it can be nice to take a quick power nap to recharge.
4. Take a walk
Being in Maryland, the weather is super bipolar. So when we do get a random nice day, go outside and get some fresh air. You can also try finding a nice spot outside to do your work. There are a lot of underrated outdoor study spots on campus that you may never think of, so go explore!
5. Find a new study spot
Look for a new study space you've never used before. If you live in a sorority house like me, it may be nice to leave for a few hours and go to the library or even somewhere like Panera or Starbucks to crank out some work. Some people can get really creative and you may find a study spot you've never considered.
6. Try a different study technique
Sometimes it's nice to change the way you're working. Doing the same thing over-and-over may be why you're getting antsy or losing steam. If you're a visual learner, maybe try writing out your notes to switch it up. Try using colored pens to make it more fun! Again, everyone is different, but for me it is easier to see different points in different colors to differentiate them.
While we all understand that college is a stressful time, it's also a fun one. Like my wise roommate says, "This is the only time in your life to do whatever you want, so have fun and be selfish when it's necessary." We've got four years to learn what we want to, do what we want to and learn who we are before entering the real world. While there are plenty of ways to relieve stress, take a step back and relax. You will get your work done regardless, and you'll do the best you can.
