With college back in session, there are plenty of clubs that are trying to recruit you to join them, but the best one by far is Florida Crew. It is an amazing team with amazing people, and joining it has been the best decision I have made since coming to the University of Florida. There are so many reasons to join the team, but here are the top ones.
1. You Will Meet the Most Amazing People
The UF Crew Team is made up of the most wonderful people you will ever meet. We are a tight-knit group, which means you basically get a second family. Your teammates will do anything for you like pull all-nighters studying or drive out of their way to get a cell phone you left in a Subway bathroom. The kind of people who do crew are hardworking, smart and dedicated; those are the kind of people you want as friends.
2. You Will Get A Good Workout
Joining UF Crew is a great way to beat the freshman fifteen. Most of us plan on making it to the gym, but let's be honest, we don't make it very often. However, joining a team gives you accountability, and you won't want to let your teammates down, so you will get a great work out in.
3. You Will Get To Travel
Very few regattas actually take place in Florida, which means we get to travel to other states like Tennessee and Georgia quite often. We also get to take the occasional trip to places like Philadelphia, Boston and even San Diego.
4. You Will Get Cool Gear
Florida Crew has the coolest gear around. We have a graphic design major who makes awesome t-shirts for almost every event and super cool apparel chairs who put together backpacks, duffels and of course our Gore-Texes. You can see us sporting our amazing Gore-Texes all over the world!
5. You Will Not Need Experience
The majority of our novices come in with no experience, however, we have awesome coaches who are able to turn them into highly competitive rowers rather quickly. If you do have experience, we have an awesome varsity team. You can train with while the novices are catching up.
6. You Will Get To Be On A Competitive Team
With the help of our coaches, Florida Crew is able to compete with the top teams in the nation. Last year, the men's novice took gold at SIRA, and the last two years the women's novice team has taken gold at SIRA, which is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to this team's many wins and accomplishments.
If you are interested in joining Florida Crew, we have New Rowers Interest Meetings on August 28th and 31st at 8:30 in the Reitz Union, Room 2365.
