1. You want a "family."
Before I came to Kansas State, I didn’t understand the concept of this whole family thing. The moment I stepped on campus, it clicked instantly. If you’re on looking at a map on campus, or just look lost in general, someone will stop and help you. Whether you’re at sporting events, walking to classes and around town or driving around the country, you’ll see that power cat car decal and know that you are part of something very rare and very special. If you want a family and a home away from home, Kansas State is the right college for you.
2. Comfort.
Moving away from home for the first time can be rough, to say the least. Whether you live in the residence halls your first year, an apartment, house, or Greek house, you will always feel comfortable. Dining centers, updated college townhomes, and well kept up chapters are always homey, accommodating and comforting to make you feel like you’re right at home.
3. Opportunity.
With over 250 majors to choose from, and more than 60 master degree programs, Kansas State has endless opportunities. Almost everywhere you go, there will be a Wildcat who can help you or send you guidance. With so many connections, you are almost guaranteed to have a Wildcat nearby for opportunities and future plans.
4. You're fine with obsession.
I’m going to be honest; I am obsessed with my University. I have never made a more wise decision in my life than to attend Kansas State. I have met women who will,, without a doubt, be the bridesmaids at my wedding, a family of well over 25,000 people, a town I am grateful to live in, a sorority filled with women I know will always be behind me, and a newfound love for appreciation and happiness.
5. You don’t want Greek life to have a bad name.
Something that I love about Kansas State is the Greek community. There is a sense of unity that takes place throughout every year and that is something that I am grateful for. At some schools there is a lot of competition and some houses are looked down upon where as here, that is not the case. Every house has something great to offer and there are wonderful people everywhere you turn. We are all very involved and love helping one another. There isn’t that “top house” and being in the Greek system is something to be proud of and is an honor and privilege.
6. You enjoy being supported and enjoy supporting others.
No matter the score, sport, game, or team, Kansas State fans will always support one another. The overwhelming support and involvement with school events is unlike any other. If the wildcats are playing, you are almost guaranteed a full house with tons of fans and support right behind any of them. For a personal example, this past year Kansas State played UCLA in the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio, Tex. My family and I went along with meeting a few families there. The airports, town, and environment were filled with purple. It literally felt like a game day back in Manhattan with a sea of purple covering the city San Antonio. Kansas State fans came from all over the nation to support their team for one game.
Kansas State is, without a doubt, accommodating to any interest, type of person, and desires. There is a place for everything and the family continues to grow year after year. Thank you, Kansas State, for being the best thing that ever happened to me.
