6 Reasons to Enjoy the Start of the School Year

Sure, it's a drag having to attend class when the weather is beautiful in August and September, but there are so many reasons to celebrate the return of the school year, because it brings with it so many of our favorite things:

1. PUMPKIN EVERYTHING!!! Candles, pies, breads, cheesecakes, and, best of all, COFFEES! It's all around the corner! Though I run on Dunkin's version, Starbucks will bring back the cult classic Pumpkin Spice Latte on Sept. 8. Even better is that the coffee chain has revamped their PSL recipe, adding real pumpkin and eliminating its popular caramel flavoring and coloring for a healthier option.

2. Reunions with our friends. There's nothing I loved doing more in the past two weeks than seeing my sorority sisters, my roommates, and classmates for the first time in months. It's like we never left, and we're able to pick up right where we left off in May. We make plans for all of the fun things we want to do throughout the year, but also take advantage of spontaneity.

3. Halloween. It's probably every college student's favorite holiday. Everyone gets to dress up in hilarious and creative costumes (I'm partial to Emoji costumes) and be silly together! Plus, all of the movies from our childhood come back onto television, and nothing makes a bad day at school better than "Hocus Pocus" or a marathon of "Halloweentown" on the couch (made even more better when pumpkin-flavored food is involved). Haunted houses, hayrides, and pumpkin patch trips are also a must.

4. College football. There is truly no better way to spend a Saturday in the fall than at your school's football game. School spirit abound, it's a great way to spend time with friends and have a great time (especially if your team wins). There's something special about college football -- the passion, the bands, the mascots, the uniforms, the pride...football season is the best season, no doubt about it.

5. Cooler toned makeup. Along with the cooler weather comes cooler-toned makeup looks. I'm a makeup junkie, but I personally wait all year for fall so I can obsess over all the vampy lip, eye, and nail looks taking trend this time of year. It's a universal look that looks amazing on all skin types and tones, deep reds and purples that can be worn up for an elegant, classy, 50's-Hollywood-esque look, or worn down in an edgy 80's-rock look. Besides looking fierce as hell, your dark lipstick leaves a cute, Instagram-worthy stain on your cup of coffee!

6. Beautiful weather all the time. It's so nice when the summer weather starts to cool down, before Mother Nature brutally attacks us with snow and ice in the winter. There's no campus in the nation that doesn't look beautiful in the fall, and one of my favorite activities is strolling around campus in the cooler weather, when leaves start to fall and I (alongside most other girls) can wear the beloved autumn stables: leggings and scarves and sweaters and booties and hats. It's the best time of the year to explore your college town, as well!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
