I laughed a little bit when I found out Donald Trump was running for president of the United States of America. His name was familiar to me because of his reality television show and his many attempts at putting his name on things such as buildings, airlines, and even a school. I never dreamed he would be taken seriously as a presidential candidate. But with the 2016 presidential election seven months away, I am afraid that there is a chance that this man might actually have a shot at getting the keys to the White House. The goal of this article is to point out some of the things that have come out of his mouth. Reader, be warned: They are offensive, vulgar, and very unpresidential.
1. "I could stand in the middle of 5th Avenue and shoot someone, and I wouldn't lose any voters."
On Jan. 23, 2016, Donald Trump stated that he could intentionally kill an American or any other innocent passerby, and he wouldn't lose a single voter. First, shame on Trump for even suggesting that he could do something like that. Secondly, shame on any American who could support a candidate for president who speaks so recklessly about gun violence. This points to the insensitivity Trump has for the numerous mass shootings that have taken across our nation.
2. "You could see there was blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her wherever."
At the first Republican presidential debate in Cleveland, Ohio, journalist Megyn Kelly pressed Trump about his repeated offensive statements regarding women. It would seem to me that if you are asking to be elected president of a country that has a 50 percent female population, you might be more respectful to women. When questioned about this quote, he referred to "wherever" as her "nose." If he meant her nose, why not say her nose? Trump's insinuation that Megyn Kelly questioned his positions aggressively because she was menstruating is, well, crazy. But let's go on.
3. "I've said if Ivanka weren't my daughter, perhaps I'd be dating her."
In early 2006, while on "The View" with daughter Ivanka, Trump was asked about his thoughts on Ivanka posing for Playboy. The above quote came after he stated that he would be "disappointed -- not really ... it would depend on what's inside that magazine." It's Playboy magazine! It's not an L.L. Bean catalog, what do you think is going to be inside of it! Is Mr. Trump saying he is attracted to his daughter? What?!
4. "Look at that face! Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that the face of our next president?! I mean, she's a woman, and I'm not s'posed ta say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?"
In September, while being followed by writer Paul Solotaroff for his Rolling Stone profile, Trump made comments on the GOP candidate Carly Fiorina's appearance, which were then published in the magazine. Yet again, Donald Trump is speaking of a woman's appearance as something that would make her less capable of leading our country. Let's be real, Donald. Have you looked in the mirror?
5. "Look at those hands, are they small hands? And, [Republican rival Marco Rubio] referred to my hands: 'If they're small, something else must be small.' I guarantee you there's no problem. I guarantee."
In early March, Trump responded to attacks from Marco Rubio about the size of his hands, and what that means about the size of the rest of the parts on his body. Granted, Rubio opened the door to this discussion, it might have been OK if this was the first time Donald Trump has publicly spoken about his genitals. I promise you, as president that doesn't matter, no one cares. Have you ever heard Obama or Bush or Reagan talk about themselves like that? No. It was then reported that Trump photographed himself naked and exposed to prove his point, and posted it to Twitter. The photo was quickly taken down, but not before many people saw what Donald Trump deems appropriate for a presidential hopeful.
6. "When Mexico sends its people, they're not sending their best. They're not sending you. They are sending people that have lots of problems, and they're bringing those problems with us. They're bringing drugs. They're bringing crime. They're rapists."
While at a rally, Trump had these words to say about Mexican immigrants. This candidate for president of the United States, a country made strong by diversity, threw an entire race under the bus, labeling them as drug traffickers, crime-doers, and rapists. Guess what, Mr. Trump. Over 50 percent of rapes committed in the United States are committed by white males, and 82 percent of rape victims know the rapist. I don't think random Hispanics are going to come to our country to look for someone to rape. Shame on you for thinking so little of people who come to America looking for a new beginning because they know they have better opportunities. They see our country as a safe place to raise their families and a better place to raise their children. How dare you deny a child a safe home based on the color of their skin.
I don't really know what I would do if Donald Trump were to be elected president. I hear there are already countries allowing Americans to seek asylum should he win the presidency. The only thing that I can do now is hope that people see this article and that facts help them make a critical decision about who should lead our country. The possibility of Donald Trump being our president is very real. His words and his actions are all we have by which to judge him. Think, America: Is that someone that you really want running our country?
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending the best. They’re not sending you, they’re sending people that have lots of problems and they’re bringing those problems with us. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bring crime. They’re rapists… And some, I assume, are good people.”
