Sure, we’re known for the snow. We’re known for our sports. But, Syracuse also is filled with some of the highest-ranked programs, the craziest sports fans, the best athletes, and the best alumni in the country. We know Cuse is already awesome, but after reading this article, you’ll have no doubt in your heart that there is nowhere like Syracuse.
Syracuse Has Several of the Highest Ranked Programs in the Country.
Not only do we play hard, but we work even harder, and it shows. Did you know that Syracuse has four academic programs that rank among the top five in their field nationally? Our highest-ranked programs include, communications (number three, according to US News), architecture (number three, according to archdaily.com), entrepreneurship (number four, according to Forbes), and our newspaper is also ranked as, number two in the nation!
The Fans Here Are (Borderline) Insane.
One word: Boeheimburg. Each winter, outside the dome (one of the largest college sporting venues in the country), the dedicated Orange students set up camp, in tents, for as long as two weeks in subzero temperatures to ensure a good seat in the student section for the all-important Duke game. Loaded with sleeping bags, hand warmers, scarves, and homework, we don’t mess around when it comes to being as close to the action as possible.
The Sports History Here Is Also Pretty Crazy.
Carmelo Anthony. Ernie Davis. Donovan McNabb. Michael Carter-Williams. Gary Anderson. You name it, we’ve got it. Hall of Famers, Olympians, NFL record holders, Heisman winners, the list of our athletes’ accomplishments is endless. Syracuse University does not mess around with its sports. The only thing crazier than the fans that support them, is the skill level of the athletes that go to school here. The coolest thing is that we get to go to school with these people! Don’t pretend you haven’t taken a selfie in Schine with a basketball player in the background saying, “Future NBA player right here.”
Speaking of Sports, Our Sports Broadcasting Also Has Quite a Name for Itself.
In addition to having incredible sports teams, we also have super talented people who bring the action right to your TV or radio. As I said earlier, The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications consistently ranks among the top five schools in the country for communications and journalism. It boasts famous alumni like Marv Albert, Craig Carton, Bob Costas, Marty Glickman, and Adam Zucker. Most of these guys got their start at the campus radio stations, WAER, WJPZ, and WERW, which are also ranked among the best in the country. Almost any time you turn a sporting event on TV, or the radio, you’re almost guaranteed to see a ‘Cuse alum bringing the action live to you at home!
Jim Boeheim is, well, BAE.
Jim Boeheim, if you didn’t know, is one of the best coaches in basketball. Ever. At the height of his career, he’d compiled 966 wins, five Big East championships, one national championship, three national championship game appearances, and has been involved with the national team for over 20 years. That’s right, he’s an olympic coach. And we have him! Right here! Every week! WHAT?! We’re lucky to have one of the best coaches in all of basketball right here with us week in and week out (his tantrums are just another upside of his amazing coaching feats).
Syracuse Was Voted the number one College Town in America.
Maybe it’s the fact that everybody around here is always decked out in Orange. Maybe it’s the fact that everybody loves Otto. Maybe it’s our historic downtown, or the awesome atmosphere you feel as soon as you step foot on campus. For all of these reasons and more, Syracuse was voted the number one College Town in America by Travel + Leisure Magazine. With all that there is to offer both on and off campus, we couldn’t agree more.
