Somehow, summer vacation always feels the shortest. August is already here, which means school is right around the corner. There are a lot of things for college students to do in these next few weeks to start a new semester off right.

1. Start packing early

If you’re living on campus, packing (somewhat) early is key. It's important to get your things together before move-in day. Try keeping all of the things for your dorm/apartment together in a pile so that you won’t forget anything when you move in. The last thing you want to do is forget your favorite stuffed animal at your house.

2. Look over your schedule

Make sure that you’re okay with your classes and where they are. If you have back-to-back classes, make sure the buildings are relatively close to one another. Being late for class all the time because you had to run across campus is not ideal, especially on days with bad weather.

3. Talk to your roommates

If you don’t know your roommates for the upcoming year, find them on social media and message them (resist the urge to creep on their account). Talking to each other early on will make move-in day a lot better and not nearly as awkward. Plus, you’ll get an idea of who they are and plan accordingly.

4. Fix your sleep schedule

It’s officially time for you to stop going to sleep at three in the morning and waking up at noon. Do not, I repeat, do not start classes while still on your summer sleep schedule. You’ll regret it. Go to bed a little earlier every night so that your body isn’t completely shocked when you’re suddenly sleeping at ten. You’ll have plenty of all-nighters later in the semester, so enjoy a regular sleep schedule while you can.

5. Plan your finances

Since college students have to pay for a million things, we need to make sure we have our money together, especially before classes start. Tuition, books, dues, food, bedroom stuff, etc. are all things that eat up your money in the beginning of the semester. Try to have your cash flow planned out early and set aside money for specific expenses.

6. Enjoy your last month

I can’t stress this enough. College is so much fun, but we all deserve a break. We spend most of the year in school or doing stuff for school, so enjoy your last few weeks of freedom because the next big break won’t be until December. Devote your last few weeks to relaxing and preparing for another great (and probably stressful) semester.M/p>

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
