Here's the thing: I've been single my whole life up until now. And yes, it has been a pretty wonderful life on my own. I have always had to find dates for my dances, cook for only one, and go through life with my family and friends by my side. I loved this life, but I am more grateful for the life that I have now. By gaining a significant other, my life has changed for the best. I have been blessed in many ways, but I have also seen the differences in my life with having my significant other by my side. Here are a couple of the reasons I enjoy having this special person in my life:

1. There is always someone to finish your food

Going out to a restaurant, I never have to worry about bringing a box home. There is always an extra set of hands around to pick at your food. I'm not complaining, but sometimes I want that cheeseburger to myself.

2. You always have someone to hangout with

Whether they want to or not, this is always your go-to person when it comes to going out. You can go to the movies, dinner or even just lounge around with. They are always there.

3. They understand you

Being in a relationship can be extremely beneficial if the person understands you. It is important that your boyfriend or girlfriend can be there to support you emotionally and is able to tell when something might not be right.

4. They always want to help you

Your significant other is always able to tell when you are having a bad day or even when you just need a shoulder to lean on. They are there if you need a laugh, a cry or even a hug. This person always knows how to cheer you up.

5 They respect you

One of the most important things often missing in relationships is respect. If your partner isn't respectful towards you, get out and find yourself someone who is.

6. They are your best friend

I never really understood what it meant when my friends who were in relationships would tell me that your significant other will be your best friend. Come to find out, it is exactly true. They are able to be everything above and so much more.

I never thought I could find love, and I'm sure I'm not the only one out there. I can honestly say that when you find the person you've been waiting for, you feel right at home. You feel like you would never want to be anywhere else. I know that being a girl, I have the stereotype of being extremely sentimental, but I'm totally ok with that. I love that I am able to share my happy, sad, joyful, and confident days with someone who I know will be there. I hope that everyone is able to find a significant other who treats them the way they deserve, with respect.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.
