Life is beautiful.

I like to think that I’m a pretty positive person so when I reflect on life as a whole, I try my best to focus on the good rather than the bad. While most of the time I am able to do that, there are certain moments where I can’t help but feel a tad bit sad. Here are 50 little reasons to help you smile, even on the days where you don’t feel like smiling at all.

1. Puppies… Need I say more?

2. When you smile, you make others smile. What better feeling is there to know that you made someone happy?

3. Receiving hugs from your family and friends.

4. Trying something new and exciting.

5. Cuddling with your pet.

6. Getting a good grade on a test or paper that you thought you did poorly on.

7. Receiving smiles and compliments from strangers.

8. Teaching a baby how to walk.

9. Watching your first Broadway show.

10. Reuniting with long-distance friends.

11. Eating ice cream...

12. ...and eating pizza.

13. Actually…just eating.

14. Making new friends.

15. Staying up all night to watch the sunrise.

16. Making a wish on a shooting star.

17. Watching Disney movies and drinking hot chocolate.

18. Decorating during the holiday season.

19. Catching fireflies in summer.

20. Throwback songs that get everybody singing.

21. Going to your first concert.

22. Watching the sunset on the beach.

23. Reading a really good book.

24. Finding random money in your jean pockets that you once misplaced.

25. When the weather finally starts to get nice.

26. Road trips.

27. Being tan.

28. When the team you're rooting for wins.

29. When you see the waiter come with your food.

30. Having random dance parties.

32. When you find out that your favorite artist is coming out with a new album or is going on tour.

33. Finding someone that obsesses over the same TV shows, music, etc., as you.

34. Having deep and meaningful conversations with people that you're close with.

35. When your package from Amazon arrives.

37. Having someone play with your hair.

38. Learning words and phrases in different languages.

39. Getting ready for a party with all of your friends.

40. Family nights.

41. Baking warm chocolate chip cookies...

43. When you finally finish that homework assignment that you have been putting off for weeks.

44. Being able to sleep in.

45. When Netflix adds your favorite movie.

46. When the Disney movie that you loved as a child comes out with a sequel 10 years later.

47. Listening to a song with lyrics that relate exactly to how you are feeling.

48. Receiving random messages from people that you used to be close with.

49. Making people laugh.

50. Knowing that everything will work out in the end.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
