Super Smash Bros is one of Nintendo’s most popular party games, however the game isn’t dubbed the game that ruins friendships for no reason. Here are five things based on my own experiences that you can do to lose your friends during a game of Smash.
1. Excessively countering every attack:
No one likes characters with obnoxious counters, i.e. most sword characters, so try your best to avoid them. Sometimes counters can save your life and yes the occasional counter is not so bad, but when you're trying to counter every attack that gets thrown at you you’re going to anger a lot of the people you're playing with. Do the smart thing and stay away from counters, it might just save you from taking a stray controller to the face.
2. Never ever play as Shulk.
I cannot stress this enough never, unless your life depends on it, do not use Shulk; from my own experience your use of him will only make people want to kill you in real life. Between his annoying symbol moves, to the way he screams after every attack, and the fact that one of his skins is shirtless for crying out loud; all of these aspects are enough to make any player cringe. Come on Nintendo did we really need shirtless Shulk in the game nobody wanted to see that?
3. Don't get campy:
Nobody wants to fight their way through three people, only to find out that the only other player you have standing between you and utter victory is a Dark Pit with all three lives left. Get into the game and don’t sit back, nobody likes a player who wins the match with only one kill because they turtled in the back until the very end. If you play this way you will experience name calling on an extreme level.
4. Spamming projectiles
Don’t be that player who performs well as say Captain Falcon or Kirby but switches to Lucario, Samus, or WII Fit Trainer the next game and only uses neutral B projectile attacks. Perhaps you play as Pit or Link and love spamming arrows from across the map. You may find this defensive style of play fun and tactical but your friends will not.
5. Playing smash tour
What more is there to say? Smash Tour is a combination of Smash and Mario Party; the two most friendship ruining games in history. I myself have only ever played through a game of Smash Tour 2 or 3 times and let me tell you it enrages people. Between the wonky stats system and the rules that nobody seems to understand this is a good way to ditch a few friends you don’t want to keep anymore.
