Now that syllabus week is over, the new school year is in full swing. For a lot of students, this year looks very different than it has in prior years since a majority of schools continued with their plans for virtual education. Even though the school year looks different, it is just as important to put your best foot forward and to ace all your classes. Here are five tips that will help you perform your best during your time at Zoom University.

1. Use a planner

One way to ensure you stay on top of your work is by using a planner. Whether you are using one on your phone or a paper one, a planner is a great way to keep track of the things you need to do and to stay organized.

2. Set a schedule for yourself

This school year it is really important that you keep a schedule. When you are physically going to classes, you have a schedule laid out for you. Now unless your classes are on Zoom, it is your responsibility to set your own schedule. I know how easy it can be to say well I can just do tomorrow so don't let yourself do that. Set a schedule of when you are going to work on each class and stick with it.

3. Make to-do lists

I love to-do lists. A to-do list is an easy way to see all the things you want or need to accomplish in a day. If you don't want to make a physical to-do list, you can easily create one on your phone in the notes section. This will help you prioritize the things you need to do and ultimately will make you feel more productive.

4. Stay on top of your work

Staying on top of your work is critical in order to be successful this school year. Like I said earlier, I know how easy it is to push off assignments; but, if you continue to push off assignments you will never get anything done. It is much easier to do some of your work now rather than waiting until the last minute and risk being overwhelmed.

5. Check out what resources your university is offering

Another important thing to do this year, is to look into what resources your school is offering. It is always good to know the times your school is offering help sessions or when the library will be open. The way your school is doing it this year may look different so make sure you look into it. It'll help you plan better and then if you need help later on you know where to go.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
