5 Things To Start Doing For Yourself

Love is in the little things.

5 Things To Start Doing For Yourself
Stocksnap

I've been preaching a lot about self-love lately: how you can make yourself happy, the things you can do to make your day a little brighter, the people you can surround yourself with and the people you shouldn't. These week, I came up with a few tips on the little things that you can do for yourself to promote self-love in your life.

1. Take time to get your nails done

Whether you take the time to go and get your nails done or whether you have the patience to do them yourself, having your nails done is something that makes you feel as though everything else is together. When my nails and toes are done, I find myself reaching for nicer outfits, taking more time in the morning with myself getting ready and have an overall sense that I can get everything that I need to get accomplished, done.

2. Take some bubble baths

A bubble bath is such a beautiful portrait of love. Taking time to choose music that makes you happy, light candles and spend 15-30 minutes completely with yourself allows you to have time to be with yourself. For 15-30 minutes, it isn't about all of the things that are weighing on your mind, about the mortgage you have to pay or the fact that you really aren't happy with that person and what they said, but instead, it's simply about being with yourself in a positive environment. Positivity grows positivity, and you will crave this time with yourself.

3. Wake up for the sunrise

I love waking up for the sunrise because not only have I not slept into the late hours of the afternoon, but I am awake and physically watching the world start again. There's something almost magical about waking up, curling into a chair with fuzzy socks, a chunky blanket and a cup of coffee and watching the sky melt into a million different colors. This time in the morning allows you to digest everything that you have to do that day, everything that you did the day before and embrace it —15 meetings, five board presentations and all, wholeheartedly.

4. Work out

Working out is such an important part of your day. Your body is not only producing endorphins, which we all know make you happy and far less likely to kill your husband (thank you, Elle Woods and Harvard Law), but working out has a way of latching on to every other aspect of your day. You feel productive, and you are far less likely to reach for the foods that maybe you have trouble eating without guilt. All in all, working out, even though it may not be fun, will have a positive impact on the rest of your day.

5. Perfect your favorite cup of coffee or tea

Nothing makes me happier than a really really good cup of fruity tea. I spend a little extra on this, going to Teavana instead of Target or Walmart, and it makes all the difference —especially when I have it with me for the early morning sunrise. This is something that you do to cherish yourself and the things you love most in life. So spend a little more on that perfect cup of tea or perfect cup of coffee, and make sure to cherish every sip.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
