Around this time of the semester, everyone could use some time to relax and de-stress. Here are five tips to help you unwind and relax during stressful times.
1. Exercise

It may not be the most fun thing for some people, but studies have shown that exercising releases chemicals in the brain that relieve stress. Getting your heart pumping can also help to release built up anger and frustration. The happier you are, the more positive you will be, and positivity will help you to be stress free!
2. Eat Healthy
This one goes hand-in-hand with #1. Eating fruits and vegetables will give your body the energy it needs to relieve stress. Not only is eating healthy good for you (duh), but you will feel less tired and will be ready to take on your next challenge. Not only that, but being healthy will boost your self-esteem and thus, make you a happier, more positive person.
As much as you want that comfort food, pick the broccoli instead.3. Sleep!
Most people who are stressed don't sleep enough. I know when I’m tired, I get cranky and never want to do anything. It’s hard for me to get going and I end up procrastinating. It’s recommended to get seven to eight hours of sleep a night. If that means one less hour of Netflix to catch some ZZZ’s, just do it because it will be better for you in the long run!
4. Talk It Out
Holding in why you’re upset or stressed is one of the worst things you could do! Humans are social beings, we need to talk and interact with others. Find someone you trust and have a heart-to-heart with them. Having a close friend or family member to vent to is one of the best ways to get advice and help with things you’re struggling with!
5. Spend Time Alone
After you vent to someone close to you, spend time alone to reflect upon what’s going on. Light a candle, listen to some calm music, and just relax.
It may be stressful now, but the trials you’re put through are what bring you up as a better person. Don’t sweat the small stuff and make the best out of every situation, regardless if it’s good or bad.
