Cleveland, Ohio. When most people hear the name of this city, they tend to think about negative features and assume the worst. Sure, Cleveland has its issues and may not be as high up there as, let’s say, New York City, but for thousands and thousands of people this place is called home. There are plenty of awesome things about the city of Cleveland. Although it may not have the best reputation for its sports, Cleveland sports fans are the absolute most dedicated fans out there. The topic of the Indians and the Browns will be saved for another time, but in honor of the NBA playoffs going on right now, I would like to take the time to focus on Cleveland’s very own NBA team: the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Here are five signs that you are a Cleveland Cavaliers fan:
1. They are known as “The Cavs”
Although the actual name of the basketball team is the Cavaliers, it is a lot quicker and easier to refer to them simply as the Cavs. This name becomes a household regular in homes all across Northeast Ohio. There is never a missed opportunity to stop at your local sports bar and catch the Cavs game!
2. The Leaving and Return of Lebron James
There is no way that you know anything about the Cavs if you didn’t go through the years without Lebron James and then his return in 2014. Lebron certainly put the city of Cleveland through a lot of tension and hostility when he proposed “the decision.” Many jerseys were burned and harsh words were said. Nevertheless, we welcomed the King right back when he decided to get his act together and join Cleveland once again in hopes of bringing a championship.
3. The Quicken Loans Arena is basically your second home
The Quicken Loans arena, or “The Q” as us Clevelanders know it as, is the home of the Cavaliers. This is where the magic happens. This is where all of us diehard fans come together to cheer on our favorite team. It is such an awesome feeling to be in the Q and witness a game of basketball right in front of you. There is an amazing energy that comes from the Cavs players, whether they win or not (its better if they win though obviously).
4. You hate any team that threatens the chance of a win for the Cavs
The Cavs are your absolute favorite team. You would do anything to go to a game and you are not there to watch them lose. You get very competitive when fans of other teams try to tell you that the Cavs aren’t as good as you think they are. Any other NBA team can back off because this is the Cavs’ time to shine.
5. It’s time for a championship!
The Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans have been waiting a painfully long time for a Championship. Last year, they ended up as the Eastern Conference Champs, but lost in the Finals to the team who shall not be named (*cough cough* the Golden State Warriors). Anyway, this has to be the year for the Cavs! They have been working hard all season and are finally in the Eastern Conference finals. It’s time to show the nation what Cleveland is made of!
Cleveland is all in! Go Cavs!
